turbine housing compatibility question -- .63a/r and .48a/r
is it possible to use a turbine housing from a .48a/r exhaust side turbo on a turbo that was originally .63a/r on the exhaust side?
i would test fit the housings if i could, but i dont have the pieces locally and i've got a guy who is trying to sell me his .48a/r housing but i dont know if it will fit on my turbo or not.
thanks in advance.

The housings are interchangeable as long as they are machined for the same turbine wheel (ex. Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3, etc.) AND share the same inlet and outlet configurations (ex. Ford, Chrysler, Mercedes etc. pattern). So basically you need to know what turbine wheel and style of turbine wheel you currently have in order to determine whether or not the housing is suitable.

is it possible to visually distinguish between different turbine wheels? like number of blades or something? thanks.

Count the number of blades and measure the turbine wheel with a dial caliper, then you'll know whether or not the housings are interchangeable.
