depends whats wrong but most time 5th gear syncro set and 3rd gear syncro set def all bearings and possibly shift forks

what if you did all the work to build your own motor and installed all turbo components ex. after machine shop did there stuff. i installed pistons,rods, crank, head, cams, etc.. i can do measurements for cam to rocker arm spacing torque specs but can't (haven't tried) measuring for bearing clearances (rod or main)

like anything involved with the motor... you need some experience ... if your mechanically inclined then yes you can rebuild a tranny , but just make sure you have a helms there as there are a lot of pieces that need to be put together properly or your screwed.

Get the Helm's, read the chapter on transmissions. If you aren't worried after looking at it, I say go for it. Be ready to buy some tools, though, if you don't already own various pullers, measuring devices, etc.
