Default Tranny: LS with 3 & 4 from GSR or B16???

I currently have an LS tranny and 3rd & 4th are too long. I was wondering if I could swap 3 and 4 with gears from the GSR or B16. Do you know if these gears are compatible with the LS tranny and LS final drive?

If the gears are interchangeable, where would be the best place to find some used or remanufactured gears?

FYI... I am running a little over 500whp on my DD with 225/45/17 drag radials.

Thanks.

just find a whole B16 or GSR tranny to swap over and save yourself the trouble.

the gears will work but the cost of the gears, parts, labour and headache will cost way more than finding a good used tranny....

You would have to buy 3rd and 4th (mainshaft and countershaft gears for each gear), as well as a 3-4 synchro set because the LS 3-4 synchros are smaller in diameter.

Cool. I want to shop around to see how much the gears would be. Would be gearspeed.com be a good place to start? Anywhere else?

If I can save a little with just the gears that will work. I am always looking for an excuse to take the tranny apart

...so much better if you swap out the LS for the b16. then you don't have to worry about the gears.

considering the price of replacement transmission parts. you are better off looking for a complete gsr/b16 gear set. and you will need the shifter forks too, as mentioned above. the ls are a smaller o.d. than gsr/b16

Thanks for the advise guys.

I have a quaife in the LS tranny, can I just swap out the final drive and throw it in a GSR/B16?

the quaife will bolt onto the b16 ring gear, but the gsr ring gear is too big..

the ls ring gear wont mesh properly with the b16 counter shaft.

use b16 ring gear-b16/gsr counter

redline is ~8500. I already have to turn the boost down for 1st and 2nd. 2nd can handle about 16psi but 3rd is pretty long. I can give it 24psi on my T3/T67 and the 25" DRs still wont spin. I think I can use a shorter 3rd an 4th.

i reved mine to 9300 and i was taping the rev limiter at 135 going thew the traps on a gsr

This year i ran both gsr and ls trannys,

I went 11.15 on a gsr tranny (225 bfgs)PWS trim
and 11.01 on an ls tranny full pws trim..
not totaly sure why, but my mph in the 1/8 was as high as 110mph on the ls tranny, it was a few mph faster all around then the gsr...

basicly what i am tryen to say is I'm not sure it would help you any if at all....esp on BFG's

For high HP FWD cars i think the LS tranny is the best bet, specialy if it is a DD, You have more traction that means you are moving faster. But i know some guys like to spin the wheels trought all five gears, it´s more impressive to the spektactors at the street.
