too much boost
Hey everyone, this is something like my third post on here so go easy one me.
I have been searching for the last few days around here and on google but I can't find a way to turn my boost down. Right now I'm running a T3 turbo with an internal wastegate and I have the wastegate turned all the way down but it's still pushing something like twelve psi (don't know for sure because i don't want to bring it up that high). From what I've found there is basically no way for me to turn down my boost but I just wanted to double check. So here is the basic question. apart from tearing into the internal wastegate, how can I lower my boost to something like six or seven psi? Thanks a bunch. |
you should be able to adjust the internal wastegate

Re: too much boost (niCastro)
you can bend the mounting bracket so that the actuator is a little closer to the turbine housing. also, you can cut out a small section of the actuator rod and thread the ends, replacing the missing piece with a long nut. this way you can adjust the length on the arm, to lower the boost you'd want to lengthen it. either one of these methods or a combination of both should let you get the wastegate to open sooner. you can also use an actuator from a different turbo that is set for a lower psi, but the first two methods would probably be easier.

Re: too much boost (eastbay92cx)
ok, i made the actuator rod as long as I could without cutting and rethreading (that'll be next if nothing else works), do you mind explaining that first suggestion though, I think I know what you are talking about but I've been very careful in everything I've done so far and I don't want to mess up something now. Thanks a ton though, that second suggestion lowered it to something like 9 psi, almost there!

I say get an external wastegate.. saves the motor |
oh, no offense taken at all. when on a budget you take what you get, ya know? but how would that work, putting a external wastegate one a manifold set up for an internal one. would some pics help? I'll try to figure out how to put them on here.
