Titanium Retainers.?

At what point to they become a necessity?? how high do you have to rev to need them, or how many horses must you make before they become a good thing to have.?

Re: Titanium Retainers.? (Pinhead)

if you're in there changing the springs, then might as well is my opinion. It's the same work, so decide upon your intended rev limit before hand.

Re: Titanium Retainers.? (VaporTrail)

I'd like to be able to rev to 9k if I make power to then, so I think I'm gonna get portflow inner springs and yellow ITR outer springs.

Re: Titanium Retainers.? (VaporTrail)

Weird.....I just installed my High Pressure dual Crower valve springs in my car yesterday---what a bitch by the way, dont ever try doing this without the proper valve spring compressor tool, hehe. Anyway I was thinking wheather or not I should go with the titanium retainers or not--i know that some people will say stock retainers are fine.
By the way. I took it to a fingernail-biting 8000 rpms last night for my test run. Crazy, just crazy having an LS turn that high. Im happy now cause I dont have to shift into 5th at the drag strip. 8000 rpm in the top of 4th gsr trans = 120 mph. I dont think i will be going high 11's anytime soon in street trim.

as vapor will tell you, we have taken my ls past 8k on many an occasion, just wasn't making anymore power past 8 usually. i went with crower titanium retainers, dual springs, cams, and hondata. pushed to 9k once or twice in 2nd.

after making an installment such as that, shouldn't there be a little 'break-in' period?

There have been wear issues with Ti retainers. Do a search in the TypeR forums and you'll see some interesting problems.

Re: Titanium Retainers.? (Rocket)

If you do go with Titainium retainers, be sure to get some very high quality ones. Poor quality ones may not fit perfectly and will cause bad harmonics in the valve springs.

Re: Titanium Retainers.? (Inlinefour)

I will most likely pick up Ferrera or Portflow retainers

This is what I have heard and seen as well. Are there Ti retainers that are more prone to this than others. Who has experience with Ferreras?

Re: Titanium Retainers.? (XtraFastCRX)

I have heard someone on this board saying that peple with type r's change there titanium retainers about every six months. That sounds odd to me, but why would they? Is there that much wear? Anyways I have a fully built B16A2 with complete Ferrea valvetrain as in dual springs, titianium retainers, keepers and so forth. I once raced a GSXR 750 down the freeway once after leaving a club. I had a few drinks, but besides that while racing him I bounced off my rev limeter not once but twice in fifth gear. Yes I know how stupid that was, but everything held up great. I was boosting 11lbs on stock injectors with no fuel management. All I had was a bigger fuel pump at the time. Not to say that Crower has a bad product, but I do hear andf know a few people who have dropped a valve with Crower springs. I believe Crower has Eibach making there valve springs now! Anyway's I would definitely recommend Ferrea!

If you two would like to fight, take it to PM. I may not speak for everybody here, but no one wants to see some cat fight and hurt the integrity of this board.
