Default Tire sizing and transmission gearing.

Hey guys. I have a bunch of questions and am looking for some advice. here it goes.

Car is a 1991 CRX Si with 325whp. Eventually will get pistons/rods and shoot for 375+whp but currently 325whp.

Now what are the pros and cons of 2 setups that go something like this.

A car has big slicks with a b16a transmission (very short)
or
Same car has smaller slicks with a gsr tranny (slightly longer)

They both cross the finish line at the end of 4th gear. Is there a benefit to one setup or another?

Reason I ask is this is my dilemma. I have not been to the track yet. What speeds can I expect to trap? I have a cable b16a tranny now but am going to be getting a hydraulic (sp) transmission so I can now choose different gears (b16a, gsr, ls, ect..).

With stock tires and my current gearing 4th gear tops out at 110mph. Will my car trap that high or higher? Will I currently need to shift to 5th with stock tire size?

I am contemplating for the new transmission to be a b16a or a gsr. Not sure yet. The car is not a track only car and sees a lot of street use so I think the GSR may be better for traction and cruising purposes. Also the GSR is only a slight bit longer in 2nd (6mph taller) and then the mph jumps are the same in 3rd and 4th (+15mph, +27mph). I am not concerned with 5th although the gsr would be better there for cruising.

I understand the whole b16a is fastest since its the shortest and dont buy into that LS iz In b00sT L0nGeR y0! but the fact that the car sees a lot of time with the stock tire size may make it worthwhile to get a longer tranny like the GSR.

What do you think?

i could be wrong, but i have been gathering and seeing things like this.......
and this is sfwd stuff:
up to 500 whp b16 trans and 24.5"s
more than 600 25"s and all gsr or b16 with gsr 4th

i would think your 325 with the b16 and some 23"s would be great.
use the fatboy garage link and play around with it. idealy you want to be at the top of 4th as you trap

Still running the ITR tranny here with 650+whp and 24.5's.....All theories are out the windown

I wish someone made a 25" tire for 15" rim. Trapping 149mph, rev'n to 9800.

just a thought he hee.
is that 1/2 really that important? i am too brain dead to figure roll out right now. m and h has a 24.5 x 8.5 x 15 ran em last year.

side note, how are the gears holding? i dont think i have truly tested mine yet.

So with those big *** tires and 9800RPM, are you trapping 149 in 4th?

thats where i hope to be. once i learn how to drive the car again, last time out was 8900-9000 in 4th and that was 140. i was ***** footing. and short shifting.

I dont plan on revving higher then 8000 maybe 8500 when crossing the finish line. It is not a full blown drag car. So thats 110mph in 4th gear on stock tires, 120mph with 24.5 slicks.

I will take what I can get since my options are limited on the 15" rim.

Gears are doing great. We will see what the new setup will do to them though..lol.

err...not really big tires, but yes on my slicks that is what I trapped with the ITR tranny. Car went 10s on pump gar on same setup but with street tires.
