Default Timing question... Low compression/Big Bore B18C1...

My 84mm B18C1 has a CR of about 9.2:1 with Arias pistons. Because of this, I would assume that I should advance the base timing by a few degrees to make up for the aditional volume in the cylinder.

Agreed?

Personally, I havnt seen people doing this. They just set the base timing back to stock, and retard in boost from there.

larger bore does need more timing to run right even under boost..what psi do you get on your compresion gauge? im getting 205-210 on my 9.1 84mm gsr...

how many degrees did you have to advance a 84MM GSR to briing it back to stock spec? 18 degrees?

It would be best to find out the best amount of timing by a load based dyno...but I don't think many of us have that opportunity.

Those compression numbers are after you broke it in right? Im checking my 84mm GSR 9:1 motor before being broken in and Im in the 150-180psi area.

lower compression and bigger bore both need more timing. Im betting the reason most people just set their engines back to stock timing is because a) it works fine & b) they don't know that low comp/big bore needs more timing.

Yup...the increased timing would definetly help out off boost performance, and surely make the transition into boost a little more cleaner.

I just started breaking in and street tuning my 2.0L GSR and Im finding that it is liking alot of timing. At idle it wanted 18 degrees. What are you guys running for EMS? Id like to look at your tunes if you wouldn't mind.

idle is kinda sketchy w/ larger injectors. normally, to overcome such large injectors. *most of the time* you will have to run it slightly richer and w/ a bit of retarded timing to get it to idle perfectly....trade secret

any opinions on adding a few degrees from like 5inches to 0 to help spool up?
