Time to Upgrade. Input needed

This is my current Setup. made 325whp/290tq. I Would really like to get it up around 450 on pump if possible and over 500 on race again if possible. What route would I have to go to get there? Car only sees 2500 miles a year.

Everything looks good. You might need to get 1000cc injectors. What kind of race gas.

Re: Time to Upgrade. Input needed

Need a better cam man. Those cams are junk if you are only making 325 at 16psi. With a similar setup on crower 404s Im making 370 on 15psi

Re: Time to Upgrade. Input needed

Yeah but the crane and crower turbo cams idle really well, they move the powerband up about 800-1000 rpm . the smaller exhaust housing wont help with power IMO

Re: Time to Upgrade. Input needed

16psi is stock cam numbers. On a ported head they are obviously doing nothing for him

Re: Time to Upgrade. Input needed

true but on a 2L motor that .48 turbine housing imo is probably choking the potential of the motor. the larger the turbine housing and turbine wheel you can get more hp at lower boost. for example the 6262 nad 6265. the 6265 has larger turbine wheel and can only come in a .82 housing or larger and you can obtain the same hp and lower boost leves at the staright 6262

Re: Time to Upgrade. Input needed

Yeah ditch that .48 man. It's killin you. At least a .63 or even an .82 if you decide to move the powerband up a little with cams. Good news is it's an inexpensive upgrade. :)

Re: Time to Upgrade. Input needed

Definitely will need bigger injectors, and bigger turbo. Do u already have an aftermarket fuel pump? Surprised no ones mentioned that if not u will def need one

I think you will like the turbo cams.

There is no such configuration. Are you sure you simply don't have the standard .63A/R in either a T31 2.5" 4 bolt , GT 3" 4 bolt? There is no .48 Compressor or exhaust housing option from this turbocharger.

Re: Time to Upgrade. Input needed

I just copied and pasted from the sale add I bought the car from. I have an aftermarket pump in already. So looking like I should look into some 1000cc injectors and a larger housing maybe some cams? Where is a good place to buy a a larger housing. There are a million sites to buy parts from, I just dont know who is best to deal with.

Anyone have anything good to say about the new GTX series turbos?

This is the dyno of the car. It even says its a .48. So i am confused because I searched and could not find that spec? Any one know where I can get an upgrade kit for this turbo online?

Re: Time to Upgrade. Input needed

You're definitely choking with the housing, but like Shodan said there is something fishy about that turbo.

Post pics? Either way, that's your problem. And as for making 500 on an LS, all you really need a VTEC head and a bigger AR, probably a .82 for best results.

Re: Time to Upgrade. Input needed

vtec head, ID1000's, bigger turbo.
keep uping the boost til your happy.

Re: Time to Upgrade. Input needed

I also dont see the benefit of the cams if your not even revving them past stock

Re: Time to Upgrade. Input needed

I will get some pics of it or even try to find a part number. As far as vtec heads go do they have any weak points in them or is it as simple as bolting one on and your good to go to XXX amount of power.

Re: Time to Upgrade. Input needed

like jeff said... the turbo is the restriction... ID1000s are a must

700382-5012 are the numbers i could get. I think it a .60 then? I am lost at this point. Any logical and useful input is welcomed.

Jeff never adjusted them when I took it to get tuned. Why he didn't do that, I'm not sure, but he didn't.

I know the housing is small but i built the engine so it would be a street beast...that's evidenced by the fact that full boost is reached very early and spool is pretty much on demand.

If he wants to upgrade, a larger trim is necessary, i agree.

Also, ditching the recirculated dump wouldn't be a bad idea. I put that in to keep the car streetable and livable - read: quieter. Ditching that would free up some power.

Other than that, you're looking at a VTEC head. I wouldn't do it. I'd get the larger trimmed turbo and ditch the recirculated dump and see where that gets you. That head doesn't have many miles on it and it's completely rebuilt and upgraded. No need to throw it out.

The head is not ported, however. It was just "refreshed" since the original OEM head had 150k on it.

Vtec head, ID1000s, 82 backhousing

Or if you really wanna make use of this lovely setup add a gt3582r and skunk2 tuner 2s along with the above

Yes, that's a GT3076R. Yes that uses a .60A/R compressor cover. No, it does not use a .48A/R turbine housing. Sounds like a typo. Either way, you won't do 500whp on pump gas with it, as it is only 52lbs/min. You need to go up to about 58lbs/min or slightly higher to do it.

I know it's not a typo...he can look on the turbo itself. I ordered it from neukin....not sure if he put a different housing or not, but it IS .48.

so then to upgrade the turbine housing to an .82 what would I need. Just the housing?

I believe that's it, but I am not positive. I've never looked into that and now I don't have a turbo, haha.
