Default ... tight valve adjustment = rich = low vacuum at idle... ???

... i was digging through the archives and i found a couple threads on this... so i am wondering if it is true or not...

... so if you have a tight valve adjustment, does that mean that your mixture is going to be rich (especially at idle)?...

... also, if you are running rich at idle, does that mean that you will have a low vacuum reading at idle (12-14 inHG)?...

... well, i am trying to track down a low vacuum issue that i have... so if you can help, lemme know... thanks...

i dont think running rich would affect your vacuum, you probably have a vacuum leak of some sort. The same is happening to me but i think its my bov at idle. About the valve adjustment I forgot someone has to refresh my mind bump

Is your car dying on you at idle every now and then with the tighter clearances?

My car would want to die off after I did a valve adjustment with tighter clearances, but I reset the ECU and it fixed that problem.

Depending on your application, running tighter valve clearances can make your motor run a little rich and definitely have lower vacuum at idle. Using tighter clearances is like using bigger camshafts, because you are effectively changing the camshaft lift/duration profiles. Generally speaking, tighter clearances will yield more top end power, and looser clearances will yield more bottom end power with respect to your combination. Generally, though, most low vacuum problems stem from excessive blow by due to poor ring sealing, or other mechanical problems.

i thought that this might be the problem... but i did a compression test and got 190, 190, 200, 200...

... any other ideas?... thanks...

Tighter valves can cause lower engine vacuum. Due to the fact that the FPR operates under vacuum/boost. When vacuum decreases, fuel pressure increases. This combination will casue a rich idle condition.

try a leak down test, that can be more telling.
