For those who monitor intake air/charge air temps
What would you say is the maximum safe range for intake air temps on a boosted car (running pump gas)
i know this is affected by many things (like timing for example)
but where about (Ballpark) is the danger to manifold zone : ) ?

LoL, last year when I had my car tuned on 93 octane pump in the summer, the dyno was showing a temp of around 98-99 degrees Fahrenheit in the dyno room, and after a hard run on pump gas, my AEM EMS would show around 120 degrees Fahrenheit for the intake temps. I don't know if there was something up with my AEM or the sensor was just getting heatsoaked like crazy, pretty sure it was the heatsoaking. Hopefully a hondata type intake manifold gasket will help this year along with a different intake manifold.

yeah timing does
if you're running in -40 degree weather then you can afford to run more timign than you would when you're in +80 degree weather...
i'm talking about a corellation between intake air temps and high knock probability ...
i know there's a way to look at intake air temps and tell if you're starting to run too much boost (For your turbo's effeciency range) ...if not then it's an indication that your intercooler is getting maxed out ...
my question is how hot is hot ? how high do the intake air temps get and still be considered safe (assuming you have a proper tune) ?

well as far as this goes you need to get a temp sensor that is right off the turbo so that you can measure before the intercooler, then measure after the intercooler and you can calculate ambient vs right after the turbo to get turbo effeciency and then from after the turbo accross the intercooler to calc intercooler effeciency.

Idunno what the max is before you get knock. but I have had 130-140 prob even higher temps already in my R in the dead of summer and it didnt get a bit of detonation. So Im assuming the threshold is above that.

Or if you're really ambitious you could order a standard USB-interface data acquisition unit for like $30 and wire the sensors into that, plug in your laptop and use a program like LabView to record/graph/do whatever else you want with the data.
