15 psi is too much for that turbo! You lost whatever efficiency you had after 13 psi. I would try a 18g or a gt28

Yeah, 15 psi is to much for a 14b. I only ran 100mph at 17 psi on one. That means with my horrible stock intercooler it was more like 20 psi at the compressor outlet. THeir are some guys that weld the wastegate shut and run 23 psi on the 14b and pull low 12's at over 110mph in awd dsm's, but yeah you seem to have a lot of experience with the 14b.

The 14b is a great turbo. However, if you are making more than 250 whp or run more than 13 psi the 16g will make more power at those boost/flow levels. The 7cm exhaust housing will also make things slightly more efficient. THe small 16g has gone solid 11's and is a good mid 300 hp turbo.

That turbo has yet to really proove itself. Its really not a good combination it seems. May as well go with a 20 g if you want to go big, but a 1.6L motor with a d series rev limiter would be useless with it.

OK thanks.

I hear alot of people say 15lbs, although i know alot of people get 1g awd into the 12's with them. Im sure they are running more than 13???

Yeah but DSM motors I would imagine take a lot less boost than a Honda to be fast, and then if they don't rev as high as a Honda (even SOHC) then the turbo isn't going be going way off the map for efficency since it won't be revved as high.

16g is a decent turbo though. The DSM guys seem to go pretty fast with those.

Thats the same logic i had.

1.6l motor vs 2.0l motor.

Plus on a dsm they lose umph at like 5500-6k rpm.

On my d16a6 i revlimit at 7k and its still building power.

Stock cams bro. DSM's make torque, and they make a ton of it for a 4 cylinder. Ride in Humls talon and tell me it looses power at 5500-6000 rpm's.

Anyways, if you're still building power on a 14b at 7000 rpm's, then you just aren't falling off the compressor flow maps IMO. The 16g will only spool later and kill your time. Your 1.6L motor just isn't moving enough air at 7000 to warrant a 16g. You really need to bump that revv limiter to 8000 rpm's or so to utalize a 16g. Time to burn a ghettodyne chip to raise the rev limiter or something. I think the 14b is an awsome 13-17 psi turbo for 250-275 hp applications. Now, when you want to step up to post 300 whp and 15-22 psi applications, the 16g is a sweet turbo. Don't go for a 16g unless you are capable of making at least 250 whp and the capibility to spool it between shifts.

DSM guys run a ton of boost. Were boost junkies. I run 18 psi and my car is pretty mild. Lots of my friends run over 20 psi on the street. Most of the really fast ones run close to 30 at the track. If you don't think dsm's rev high, then 9500 rpm's must not be very high. Thats what some of the big dogs run.

Your telling me a stock 1g with 14b doesnt fall off at 5500-6000?? I'm talking about the 14b not a GT30 or whatever in huml's lol.

Well a bigger turbo does have something to do with it. However, the cams have a lot to do with why power dies, especially on '90 models like mine (even weaker cams).
