Default THERMOSTAT D15B help! WAAH!!!

OK im in a bit of a dilema,
I could use some advice from someone who REALLY knows
how thermostats work, in conjunction with a tuned engine.
(note: some good d15b/thermostat info about to be dropped)

OK heres the deal.
I have a jdm d15b vtec, running a jrsc, tuned @9psi via crome.

I've been running one of those lowtemp thermos(150F) and it ******* sucks,
takes forever for the car to warm up, and i'm noticing some pinging now.
I dont think it's actually even completely warming up ever.

ANYWAYS, when I had it tuned I was running an 82C(179F) thermo,
and it ran great, but I overheated at the track(thunderhill), which is what
made me try the lowtemp thermo. However it might have been that my cat melted that caused the overheating, that and racing all day long in 90+ deg weather.

SO, i'm about to swap the thermo again, and did alil research.
BASICALLY i've found out tha d15b vtecs come with a 78C thermo
and the honda helms says that there are TWO different kinds of thermos for sohc 92-95hondas. rated at the temp that they START to open at.
82C (d15z1)
78C (all others)

I had replaced the thermo in my d15b with one i bought new from honda,
I must have goten the d15z1(82C) one cuz I assumed the d15b block is basically a z1 block..

BUT anyways.
can someone plz lmk which ******* one I should use?
the 78C one? Which came originally on the d15b vtec
or the 82C one, which my car was tuned using ....

I am considering getting the car retuned as well, if that helps any.
