Is there someone I can talk to about buying a turbo car?
Thanks for anyone who is able to help me.
I'm going tomorrow to look at an 89 Turbo Supra.
Here is the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...32171.
I can see the exterior and interior will be in good condition but I have never shopped for a turbo car and I do not know how to check the turbo to see if it is in good condition or not.
What tools should I bring to check it? What should I look for? I am already preparing to do a compression and leak down test but what should I do to check the turbo.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as I need to know before I leave tomorrow. The price is really low so I'm hoping that nothing is wrong with it.

you can check the shaft play in the turbo but youll have to take off the air inlet pipe. With an older car there will be some play just make sure it isn't excessive.

Is that all I'll need to check for? I'm kinda scared since I've never dealt with forced induction so I don't want to end up buying a car with a turbo on its last legs.

well I would let some others chime in...im sure they can think of other stuff for you to check over but on the actual turbo itself there really isn't too much to be checked besides shaft play.

Yea you would have to trace back from the air filter to the compressor inlet on the turbo where the air comes in. Take off the pipe to expose the blades in the turbo and see how much the shaft moves. Not sure how much of a pain in the *** its gonna be to get to the turbo since ive never worked on an rx7. Good luck w/ it though. Why automatic? just curious

It's not an RX7, its an MKIII Supra. I can't help the fact that it is an automatic. We don't get too many opportunities for many cool cars in Kansas so I was going to pounce on this because it LOOKS like it is in great condition and it is at a cheap price.

Haha, it's alright. So when you say "shaft" you mean the turbine wheel or the compressor wheel?
Do you think the guy will let me pull apart his turbo like that?
