Default Is there anyway to check a wastegate to see if it opens?

The title says it all.

Is there any way to see if the wg is opening or not? For some reason im not getting any boost and i trouble shoot it to being the wastegate. Is there anyway to see if the spring is working properly. TIA.

you can hear the gas come out of the dump tube when it opens up and are you just reving the car or actually driving it?

Before when i had a bunch of boost leaks i was able to hear the WG open when i was driving. Resently i fixed the boost leaks with new intercooler pipping and now the WG doesnt open at all. I dont even get a pound of boost. When i first went for a drive i boosted 5psi and it blew one of my boots off, since i fixed that nothing.

I thought it was an exhaust leak but then i fixed it and that wasnt it. I also thought it might be vacuum problem but there are none. Im clueless.

check all the vacuum line and also put your hand under the dump tube and see if you can feel any exhaust gas leaking out. If not then check if your turbo is spooling?

if you have a compressor you can pressure the valve and see if it opens at that given psi

I just came back from checking and at idle i could feel exhaust gases coming out of the WG DT.

Do i just set my compressor to 10psi and put a nossle in my vacuum line and see if it would open it? Or how does that work?

i have the best answer for you buy a new WG..if you can feel gas leaking out or take off the dump tube and see if something is stuck inside..

Yeah, if you can feel exhaust gas at idle it's a direct WG problem. Open her up and check the spring and such.

if your using a tial make sure the ring is seating properly on the bottom of the valve. also to chk to see if the valve isn't opening stick some paper up the dump tube and go for a drive and if the paper is gone then the valve isn't sticking if its still there then well you know

^^yea, check that the fire ring is installed properly or see if it is even there. If it isnt, gases will leak past the valve and you wont build any boost

You wastegate it probably stuck open. If it didn't open, your turbo would over boost.

I have a Deltagate WG. Ill try that paper thing that was mentioned, and the compressed air tomorrow.

Is there a way to fix whatever this is, by adjusting the screw on the top of the WG or is it just better to buy a brand new one? I havent been home to try anything since i last posted.

Um, you have a screw on the top of your wastegate?

You can hook a pressure source to the wastegate line and use a pressure regulator to send boost to it and youll see it open.. If your not getting any boost and you think its the wastegate then its probably not closing or something..

Yea, my WG looks just like this one:

At first when i went to the dyno i didnt have anything up there so the shop put a "replacement" in for the time being. Could that be my problem?

Ok i did the little air test and the spring opens, now im confused. Doesnt look like anything stuck either

I might have an exhaust leak, could that be causing this?
