CRX turbo help??
Hey guys and gals I have a 91 crx with a D16y7 and not much money but I am saving. I want to eventually turbo my car and need some advice. I am debating between swapping in a B16a and then saving even more to finally turbo that. OR. I could turbo my d16y7 but is that worth it what are the gains form my 109hp powerplant. And should I swap in a Y8 intake and Y8 v-tech head. My D16 has 148,000 miles on it and before a turbo I was going to do a rebuild. I've also been told that on the newer D16 the oil pressure sucks and mine is a 1997 so do I need to upgrade that. So basically if I do the D16 turbo what do I need because its not the most popular motor for a turbo so info has be scarce. Thank you so much for reading and cant wait to hear your advice.

Re: CRX turbo help??
What is your HP goal and budget? Also have you read through the FAQ in the forced induction forum?

DO IT ON ALL FOURS
Re: CRX turbo help??
OP - You are wrong on so many levels it isn't even worth correcting you. You have so much to learn it is ridiculous. All of your questions are easily searchable between the different forums on here in their respective FAQs. For you to say the D16 isn't a popular choice is ludacris. Before people even remotely waste their time, you need an education and then a better plan. There are MANY Mini-Me swaps and then to B-series comparisons. Go hang out in your platform's forum for a while and learn a bit first...

You do need to do a lot more research and figure out everything you need to know about turbo set ups etc.
That being said, You can boost your sohc y7 and would be very happy with it if you do it right.
A lot of people hate on sohc motors, especially non vtec sohc motors, fact is though, you can have that thing cranking out 300 whp without vtec and have a fun street car.
A B16 swap is going to cost you over $3k and you will have a stock B16.
If you keep the y7, you can build the bottom withforged rods/pistns, and have the machine shop rebuild the head all for about a grand, then you have a new motor, that can handle 400 whp.
With a good turbo set up and tune, the y7 non vtec will easily hit the 300 whp mark, it has been done many times.
So the extra money you would throw away doing a B16 swap can be spent on a nice turbo kit and good management/tune. All said and done for a good turbo set up with the right injectors/ecu/pump and tune expect to spend $4k, plus the motor rebuild.
Happy boosting.

Cool thats all I was looking for. Thanks. Oh and I would be happy with like 200-250hp so that seems great and a friend of mine can help. I am going to have to save so that will give me the time to learn. What rods and pistons do you recommend.
