TD04 on B16A: Which tranny to use?
I'm not a tranny guru. I am speaking with hybridEF regarding his setup, and it has come down to the question of which tranny to use...B16A, or LS?
The LS tranny has longer gears. Better for highway driving, longer time in spool. BUT, the TD04 turbo will spool so damn fast. So, which would be more beneficial...an instant spool with nice, long gears to take advantage of that time in full spool...or shorter gears, taking you higher up, being full spool the whole time? I can see Pro's to both sides...

Hmm.. I would go with a custom gearing setup. Personally though if I was to chose between the two I would probably go LS those damn b16 gears are sooo short.

Yeah...stock vs. stock.
And I know...I hate being at 4000rpm at 75 or 80mph...lol

I hate the rpm drop of the LS trans Quick spool or not the B16 is still a rever of an engine. Take advantage of the powerband and stick with the B16 gearing. If the revs become an issue, use either a 4.26 FD or switch to a larger OD wheel/tire.

the b16 will be faster on the street. stop light to stop light. the ls will be faster on the highway, give you a higher top end mph, and give you better gas mileage. personally, i'd get the b16.

Yea I'd say GS-R tranny. Not as painfully tight as the B16, not as $4 crack-whorelishly loose as an LS, good middle ground

Yeah, I actually like the GS-R trans a little better. You lose a little rpm on the 1-2 shift ( which I like for traction reasons) and you gain some rpm on the 2-3 shift (good for acceleration) compared to the B16.
RPM drop
Shift/B16/GS-R
1-2/5213/4706
2-3/5541/5726
3-4/6080/6082
