Tach problem def. ECU/Hondata related. Please look.
As I said before, after Hondata install w/ P06 ecu in my LS, tach goes crazy after 5500rpms.
Well, I just pluged in my stock ecu and its fine. So the problem is in
-P06 Ecu
-Hondata Box or program
-Conversion harness
What I dont understand is the tach reads gets its signal directly from the ICM, so how can Hondata or a new ECU cause this problem?
If vtec is engaged in my map, could that cause this?

My friend had this problem with his factory ECU, I took the negative battery cable off the battery and put it back on(reset the ECU) and it worked perfectly. I still don't know why...

what could be wrong w/ the harness? before 5500 rpm the tach works fine...its only after 5500.
only msd is a soft touch rev limiter, and it works fine w/ that and stock ecu.

I had that problem with my 99 GS silver. The Tach signal wire doesn't go through the ECU. On the drivers side of your car there is a blue wire with a big black plug around it. That is your tach signal wire. It goes to the big blue wire on your distributor. Check continuity between there and the distributor, and then from there to the tach. When I changed engines I put a automatic wiring harness in and I had to splice the distributor wire into a white wire on the tranny to make the tach work. Interesting eh?

I just went out and put a P06 with a Hondata s200 with a p28 basemap with vtec options disabled into an OBD2a LS and there were no problems with the Tach. This leads me to believe that any problems you are having are wiring harness related, or in some other way directly related to your car.
Hopes this helps clear up any issues you are having.

probem fixed!
its something w/ the conversion harness. i think the harness takes the icm driver signal from the ecu and feeds it to the tach? theres weird **** going on. and i had no continuity from icm to tach.
ran a line strait from icm to tach, completely bypassing the blue wire....and its good!
