Default T3 60 Trim vs T3 45 Trim...

So in doing some research this morning, I have come to a rather simple question probably, but one that I am not sure of the answer myself nor am I able to find the answer through searching the internet.

I currently have a 45 trim standard T3, with .42 AR compressor housing. I am looking to upgrade to a 60 trim compressor wheel, so I have been searching and came across these measurements vs my own.

T3 60 Trim Wheel-( the one I plan to purchase )
Inducer = 46.48 Exducer = 60.10

And my own wheels measurements-
Inducer = 40.48 Exducer = 60.10

The inlet (not inducer) on my current compressor is 40mm, since the Exducer measures out to be the same between the 2 different wheels, do I really even need to get a bigger housing if the bigger part of the wheel (exducer) is the same size as the 45 trim? Or can I simply just have my .42 AR housing machined at the inlet to accept the 60 trim's bigger inducer? If possible, how would this affect flow if any? If not do I need a ".60 AR" compressor housing?

Sorry if it comes off as noobish, searching for 6.5 hours only got me so far and I called ATP and a turbo repair shop/seller in Texas to not much progress I decided it was time to come here...

This is actually one of the more intelligent questions on here, so kudos to you for at least taking the time to do some measurement comparison, and finding the most cost effective way of performing any upgrades.

This question is similar to the 50/57/60 trim compressor wheel question. The exducers of all three of these common wheels is the same at about 74.75mm, while the inducers are of slightly different measurements. The difference in hp between the three is about anywhere from 20-40hp at maximum. But the true difference is WHERE the power comes in relative to one another.

That said, your potential upgrade doesn't look like it requires a new compressor housing. the question to ask is whether or not the contour of the exducer against the back wall is vastly different from the one that you have now. If it is, it may not be able to fit the same housing; even if the inlet of the compressor housing can be flared to fit the larger inducer. but it can't be determined until it is properly measured and checked. The only way tell to send it to a turbo specialist to machine and install. your call to the turbo repair shop was a help, but they can't determine anything until they see the unit.

thank you sir, I was really just using commone sense as far as the compressor housing goes...

If the exducer is the exact same its just the inducer that is larger with the 60 trim wheel, you think theoretically that you could machine the inlet to accept the bigger inducer. That is if the blade angle/curve was the same could be fit into the same housing...

theoretically, and practically, yes.. but that still will cost you for the turbo rebuilder to do that. There are costs associated with making sure the compressor wheel is balanced on that turbine shaft from the turbo you give him/her.

I am curious, does a Super 60 Turbonetics have the same backing plate as a standard Garrett 60 trim? The standard T3 Garrett lineup would willingly accept the 60 trim wheel on any of the compressor backing plates, it would just bolt right up. I had a friend offer me a Turbonetics Super 60 wheel and housing, I was wondering if anybody knew for sure if it would bolt up to the Garrett backing plate?

i dont think so. but i could be wrong. but i have a deal for you? i have a turbonetics super 60 trim and the compressor wheel is damaged and i bought a new 60 trim wheel from garret thinking it would work and it doesnt. so with that being said would you wanna trade that tn super compressor wheel for a new garret 60 trim wheel? ill throw some money in and pay for the shipping heres a pic of the wheel.
