t04s housing too big for gsr swapped crx with full-race ramhorn?
I'm needing/wanting to upgrade the turbo on my setup because it is a t04e compressor wheel and housing (don't know trim size as I bought the setup used). When looking at the compressor side it looks like it is only 1/2-3/4" away from hitting the wastegate/dumptube. Will a t04s compressor be too big to fit?
Also, if I can't use a 04s housing I've seen there are several companies that sell larger compressor wheels stuffed into an 04e housing. How hard would it be to put a 60-1 compressor wheel into the 04e housing? I looked around and real garrett 60-1 wheels go for less than $100.

It's impossible to upgrade your current turbo without first knowing what it is

t3 .63 a/r stage 3 wheel
t04e compressor housing with 50,57 or 60 trim compressor
turbo kit was an older style full-race kit with ramhorn.
made 451whp on 15psi not kept there since fuel setup couldn't keep up.
I now put in a 450 walbro pump and will be getting 1200 or 1600cc injectors. (currently have RC 1000cc)

You won't make too much more than what you have even from an upgrade to a 60-1 compressor wheel. You're starting to max out on turbine wheel's gas flow efficiency. You'll get another 20whp or so out of it or so, but if your numbers are even remotely precise, you're already larger than a 60-1 compressor wheel, like a 61mm cast wheel that was popular from Full race 10 years ago.
What you're basically creating is the standard 60-1 turbo (465981-5002S
) sold by Garrett except with a smaller T04E cover. Going to a T04S cover will not help you in this regard and will simply make fitment more difficult.
Without seeing the actual turbocharger on both ends, hard to say.

Re: t04s housing too big for gsr swapped crx with full-race ramgorn?
thanks for the help guys, I'm still confused on the turbo as everything I've read said it should be maxed by now. It made 344whp on ~10psi and 451whp on 15psi. It kept going lean after 8000rpms on the RC1000 injectors and 255 fuel pump with the E85 so the tuner (Derf tuned) and I decided to back it down to 8000. It make 418whp with the rev limit dropped to 8k.

Re: t04s housing too big for gsr swapped crx with full-race ramgorn?
I'll try and get some pics up tonight or tomorrow..
It is a .60 ar t04e housing for sure the turbo itself look identical to the one on the standard t3/t04e turbo they sell on their site, as far as the particular wheel dimensions. I don't have a digital mic nor want to take the turbo out and measure the compressor wheel...yet. The Full-Race kit is probably about 10 years old. When I bought the car over a year ago it came with a lot of receipts dated from 2006/2007 including the purchase of the full-race kit.

So, what are you trying to upgrade, to? any real upgrades mean you would sell your current turbo to do anything worth while.

Re: t04s housing too big for gsr swapped crx with full-race ramgorn?
what would be a good size to go with?
I would want to keep the t04e size housing since I don't see an t04s clearing the wastegate/manifold setup. I would prefer to keep the 4 bolt exhaust housing too so I can keep my exhaust.
my goals are 500-550whp on e85 with something the spools by 5500 or so. I want midrange+topend.

journal bearing only because of budget....I was looking at the precision 6262 for around $1k.

Check the predator or the silver surfer at speedtrappconsulting.com. These are garrett based and much better than precision.
