Synthetic oil when going turbo?
I'm about three weeks away from turboing my stock GSR with 85,000 miles on it.
I wasn't to sure if it is a good idea to switch to a synthetic oil or just stick with the 10w 30. I need opinions on this please.
Thanks

Re: Synthetic oil when going turbo? (VTC_resurected_CiViC)
I changed from Mobil1 synthetic to castrol part synthetic and everything has been straight so far, no burning oil or anything like I use to have with the mobile 1 plus its half as cheap.

I trust any synthetic oil. regular oil is not a good idea for FI. From experience in building my engine.. there is a noticeble difference in wear from a block under synthetic. MObil 1, you get what you pay for.

it comes in part synthetic 50/50 and full synthetic.
Ive used castrol full synthetic for about 5 years myself...never had a problem.
Im in the process of trying mobile one since sams club offers the 6pack for 25 bucks. opposed to 4 bucks a quart for the castrol here.

6 pack for $25? meaning 6 quarts for $25? that comes out to $4.166667
as opposed to $4 a quart for castrol???

There "fully synthetic" is 50% synthetic and the "synthetic blend" is 5% synthetic oil

Re: (11psiTurboSI)
you can switch to synthetic only if you dont have sludge buildup in your motor. Because if you do then the detergent in the oil will clean the seals and cause it to leak. And mobil1 is the best oil on the market it holds up more heat than amsoil anyday.

Does anyone truely have proof of which one is better? I have read so many Amsoil vs. Mobil1 arguments and it's always a no win situation.

Who knows and who cares if you ask me... I use cheap 10w-30 Parts master SUPER generic oil and just change it every 2000 with a Bosch oil filter never had a problem... oil is oil, if you ask me, everytime i take my valve cover off still looks brand new no oil build up and shiny gold

This is because when you use top quality oil, it's already the best out there regardless of the individual name on it. It's like me saying Coke and Pepsi are the best cola's out there so which one is better? doesn't matter because they are equally "better" in their own right. As long as you use top quality product you will get top quality results and top quality peace of mind.
