Default supercharged vr6? (first post, and its a little long)

well as you see, this is my first post. i'm limited to where i can post, so i'm trying to post this question in the most appropiate forum available to me.

OK, im an older dude comming from a MkIII Vr6 jetta with the usual bolt ons which i had for some time. the idea was to some day supercharged it as i have driving in a few MKIII blown Vr's which left me with a perminate smile on my face for the remainder of the day. needless to say my 250,xxx mile vr died brfore it ever saw a blower.

now i'm looking for a clean stock gsr, or late model prelude, or a nice 99-00 civic si to (JR)supercharge. ive seen the numbers on JR's web site. but i'm wodering how any of the above would feel comparing to my wonderful memories of the blown vr. like i said i'm an older dude, i don't care about racing, i just love simple drivably fast cars.

TIA

ok, let me say "supercharged" in the general sence didn't there was a vortec kit for acura/honda

and yea, the sc'd vr's in question were AMS kits w/ vortech blowers, 8psi putting down between 225 to 240 whp

my friend has a supercharged vr in an mk2 gti. made 240/220 on about 8.5 psi, now he is on just about 14. car is stupid fast, especially on the highway.

you might find that the supercharged honda will lack in the low end torque, as them damn vr's peak torque between 3 and 4k rpms. it will still be fast though, and you wont have to worry about breaking your tranny as much as you would with a vr hehehe

I can't really offer much of a comparo between the VW and a SC gsr.... BUT, i can tell you not to go with a supercharger. Whether it is response, power output, reliability, or the ease of putting together a setup the nod has to go to a turbo. I don't stand alone in my opinion on this subject. There are countless threads covering this issue, and each time the nod goes to a turbo. So... i guess my answer for you is that no matter if you are in a SC VR6 or a GSR with a GT28RS turbo, you're going to get outa the car extremely happy.

"plug & play" is on my mind. i'm not a tuner. the people i knew with the sc'd vr's i'm no longer in touch with but i know as long as they were happy with the power and didn't start to try and squeze more boost outa it, it would run for a long time issue free.

I don't want to turn this in to a turbo vs. supercharger thread but I would also look into the gt28rs if you are looking for a really fun street car. If you are dead set on a supercharger that's fine. However, if I were to get a jrs I would still throw away the fmu and get a good standalone and have the car tuned properly.
I don't know how much your looking to spend but here is an example of a kit w/ the gt28rs : http://www.full-race.com/catal...d=844 These guys make the best products around, but if your not looking to spend that much there are other very good companies that can get you comparable products for less. I wouldn't write off the turbos just yet they are way more powerful, efficient and are just as reliable as a supercharger if built properly.

here are a few examples of the turbo I mentioned before:

There are also cheaper non-gt series turbos that can give you very similar numbers and spool up times with out the price tag of the gt series. I personally don't know anything about them, but maybe someone that does will chime in. Good luck whichever route you go.

Turbo kicks ***, but if your heart is set on SC then do it.

I have a small TD04 14G on my D series. It hauls *** compared to being stock, but it's no where near fast enough.

gt28rs is too small for a prelude, and borderline to small for a gsr if you ask me. they are kinda expensive as well, so you would be fine with a precision sc series or hell even just a plain old garrett

Have you looked at ANY of those dyno charts? The GT28RS is good for 320+ whp no problem. rmcdaniels here on H-T pushed his to 372 whp.

Simply not true

i like them big, like my women . hehe

no seriously i personally would run something bigger. vw's run small ko3 and even the ko4 is tiny. those turbos accent the low and midrange that those motors make. hondas are more of a high end performer, and especially with the tighter geared trannys will benefit more from a decent sized snail than a smaller one. once again, this is just my personal opinion, having owned 2 turbo hondas and driven numerous other turbo cars

If he is looking for something really responsive though like the sc VW he rode in then wouldn't it make sense for him to get something smaller and way more responsive? I mean if it was my build... i would have a built motor and a GT35 and be happy.... but for what he is trying im not sure its appropriate. But then again, i like my girls small like my GT28RS
