cuz you're not making boost when you rev and the motor has no load.

boost is made when the turbo supplies more air than the motor can ingest.

no boost = no psssshhhttt!

Not enough load on the engine to spool it in neutral. Go in 2nd gear, partial throttle, then mash the gas. Look at the boost gauge, I bet it doesn't SHOOT up to XXpsi, rather it climbs up there. .

You'll hear certain cars be able to blow off sitting still because their turbos are much smaller compared to the displacement of their motors. For instance a Subaru WRX can blow off loud as hell just by revving...

But if you look at their stock turbo, it's the size of Peewee Herman's tube steak.

Not saying to do this or anything but if you retard your ignition timing alot you will spool the turbo under no load and then it will blowoff alot..

Hmm...never heard of this...do you know why? Does that cause excess combustion gas or somethin.

For the blow-off valve going off when in neutral, everyone pretty much answered your question. Most stock cars with turbos blow off very easily because there turbos are small. I have a pretty big t3/t04e 57 trim and I blow off only at 6k-7k in neutral. Ohterwise in load (in gear) I'll boost/blowoff at around 4,200rpm. It just means you have a bigger turbo and thus more effiecient in the higher RPMS

Its how anti-lag 2steps work.. If you retard the ignition timing your not getting any/little power out of the combustion since its igniting it so far retarded that your combustion is going out the exhaust valve, but since your still using air and fuel and are igniting it its still going to come out of the exhaust and through the turbo.. So you can sit still out of gear and spool up..

I use this method on my drag car and have it set up to make about 4psi when im comming off the line..
