Default Strange valvecover problem with friend's car

I'm posting this for JDMS1eeper here on ht because he doesn't have the internet right now. The other day he swapped his valvecover with a spare polished one he had laying around. After starting the car it and tried driving it there was all kinds of smoke coming from the exhaust that wasn't there before. When he checked the car later on he found that there was a little oil in the compressor wheel of the turbo, and that the valvecover gasket was blown out , oil on one of the sparkplugs, and a bunch of oil in his intercooler. It looked like he had a return line problem or possibly the rings went bad causing excessive crank case pressure that resulted in the wet plug and blown out valvecover gasket. The strange thing was that he had no visible blowby out of the valvecover breather and the compression of the motor was the exact same as the day he built it. After messing with some things he started it again and still there was smoke. Then finally he changed back to the old valvecover and presto the smoke went away completely. Is it possible that the vents in the polished valvecover were clogged which led to excessive crankcase pressure? He sais now his car feels much slower than before...is it possible that the turbo is messed up now? It still boosts the same.

the only thing i can think of right now
a loose spark plug and the gasket on the spark plug tubes on the vc is worn...
oil passes through these gaskets and seep down into the motor through the loose plug?
just an idea

that doesn't explain the pressurized crankcase though. He said that his tranny even had oil leaking underneath it like the rear main seal blew oil out of it or something.

well with a loose plug during compression, the pressure inside the cylinders would come through the loose threads too... the plug top didn't come off so it went past the spark plug tube gaskets to spew out the crankcase?
lol

When I put my valve cover back on once I forgot to tighten it down and while drivin oil was comin out and spilled all over the place. I also didn't have a spark plug gasket on one of the cylinders. I would check that he has all 4 spark plug gaskets and valve cover to head gasket all in good shape. Also, see if the valve cover breather hole is plugged. I don't know what the problem is, but these are some suggestions

yea all the other stuff has been checked, but i'm guessing you are right about the breather hole being plugged up somehow. Thats the only thing that i can think of that would possibly cause so much crankcase pressure.

Normally Id have to see it to believe it but I know your not full of ****.
Thats very odd. Put the polished valve cover back on and see if the symptoms come back. Its hard to believe they can be related.

Yea it really is strange. I haven't personally taken a look at the valvecover myself so who knows. He sais he thinks the car getting slower may have just been in his head now.

Hello all, (Comcast Cable is finally back, WooHoo!)

I havent checked the valvecover but my guess is, its clogged up.

The loss in power I am thinking is from the 1+ Qt.'s of oil in my FMIC, lol. I know its killing my effiency. a little cleaning should being my iat back down. Thats prolly the loss i was feeling.

That was hilarious when we were driving, and that old lady was walking down the street and we looked back and couldn't see her because the smoke was so thick.

I'm thinking maybe that valvecover was meant to be on a different year B18B than yours though, I don't know why they would be different, but hell who knows . Your theory of it being clogged up sounds like a possibility too.

Hope you get your **** back to how it was before, Brad. Still feels like a low 12 second/high 11 second car to me though lol

HAHAHA, my old ValveCover strikes again, i doubt it is what killed my ****, but come to think of it, it was doing the exact same thing even after replacing those 2 pistons and removing the turbo kit. STRANGE

Yea i'm guessing something got clogged in there when you were originally shooting oil out of it . We went to do some fine tuning on brad's car tonight and it seems to run like **** now....hesitates a bunch at part throttle, has some weird spot where it starts bucking like crazy at a certain rpm if you are at part throttle, and has less power in boost. It ran so great before this valvecover **** happened
