Default Strange noise after hitting the revlimiter in second gear

first off, the setup in brief:
90 civic hatch
custom turbo kit
b16a1
Hondata s200
aem fpr
550cc's
walbro 255
msd sci w/ cap and blastercoil

Ok so the other day I was driving home and got on it in 2nd gear to redline and the tires spun a little so it bounced off the rev limiter for just a second then went part of the way through 3rd. After this my engine was making tinking sounds speratically. when i pushed the clutch (and let it just idle) it stopped. I got it the short distance home to check it out. when i rev (with the clutch pushed in) it sitting still it makes the noise every once and a while but not as much as when there is a load on the car. There are no check engine lights and it idles and runs fine (although im not driving it till i figure this out)

is this detonation? could the timing have gotten advanced somehow?

*POST has been edited the sound is not comming from tranny read post below too plz* thanks for the help

If it's only when the clutch is out I would say it is tranny related although it seems strange it happened when you bounced the limiter. My tranny makes all sorts of awful noises and has for 6 months. I'm fixing it this week but if it is tranny related, hondas growl for a while before actually dying.

you have to remove the tranny to do it so it would be a good time to check or upgrade your clutch

no sorry i wrote that wrong... when i let it idle it stopped, when i push the clutch in and rev it it still makes the noise.

i just went out there and listened again and whats wierd is the ticking noise sounds like its comming from the exhuast manifold area.. it honestly sounds like a tiny rock hitting the inside of the metal on the manifold... weird... mebe unburnt fuel exploding in the manifold.

can the tial wastegate make noise like this out of boost?

Wild idea, but maybe one of your bolts/studs snapped off and is lodged somewhere on the outside of your manifold or somewhere in your engine bay and it's jumping around.

I encountered this exact same problem tonight. Bounced off the revlimiter and a few minutes later my car kinda lost a little power for a split second. Didnt think anything of it, pulled over, and got a very wierd grinding/ticking noise at idle. I drove up the road a 1/4 mile or so and the noise stopped. It reaccured in mild form a few more times on my drive home but always stopped when pushing in the clutch.

hmm no and no.

sure its not your valves ticking? or maybe an exhaust leak?

check throw out bearing...a while back i remember that when i pushed the clutch in it would go away, but when i let out it started to knock...turns out one of the hooks that hold the bearign to the fork broke off and slaps/ticks when the clutch is released.

trow out bearings only "whine" with the clutch put in
tranny bearings dont knock, but engine bearings do

none of us here will be able to tell you whats wrong....

just take it to a local shop and have them diagnose and tell ya whats wrong

really, so im lying when i said that it was my throw out bearing?...before you say anything, think about it. Car is idling. tranny not spinnng, clutch released. top hook is broken, and engine is vibrating. Bearing will move back in forth rapidly because of the vibration. Ohh, and when i replaced the bearing, guess what happened? went away completely.

Pilot bearing and throwout bearing are the same thing. Most of the time when the bearing needs to be replaced you either hear it when the clutch isn't engaged, you can hear it rattle. But some ppl even chip their throwout (but that's mostly when you miss a downshift i.e. 4th to 2nd or 5th to 3rd).

The throwout bearing presses onthe fingers of the clutch plate.

Stock rev limiter or soft touch. You may have hurt the engine... You could do a compression test, leak down test, pull the plugs, valve adjustment..... Pull the head Try spinning the motor by hand and see if you have any resistance at top dead.
