Strange chipped Arias rings?

Strange chipped Arias rings?
Stripped my motor apart to rebuild it all before i sell the car as i want it to be perfect for who ever has it.
When inspecting the rings for wear i noticed that on one cylinder only, the top ring has bits missing from it. Does not look like damage, more like the top layer of coating coming off. each chip is roughly 0.010" deep.
Luckily the pistons are not damaged nether are the bores.
Anyone seen this before? Faulty rings?

Did you use the scissor-type spring compressor when you installed the pistons into the block? A few pros on here say that sometimes they get chipped rings, and the scissor-type compressor gives you the least chance of it chipping.

I used the ratchet strap type which i have used for years with no issues. Surely if it was installation it would be more likely to be the bottom ring not the top?

When you push them in, both pass the beveled lip the same way, and both can be caught on it the same way. The lower ring is probably less brittle than the top ring, since the top is mainly for sealing (higher tension), and the lower is more for scraping excess oil.
The bevel in the sleeve also has to be just enough to let the rings in, but not enough to allow pockets where unburnt **** can linger in the chamber. Look at the bevel, and see if it looks different from the others you remember.

Just had a look and all the bevels are the same with no damage or burrs. I cant stress how carefull i am when fitting pistons.
Also I checked the compression about 1000 miles ago and it gave 175 psi on 3 and 180 on the other, surely 5 large chips would have caused a lower number on the one cylinder?
They have been fitted about 10k miles

Arias have said that they have them in stock and have given me a price of $25 per piston but have offered no explanation as to why it has happened.
