Stg 1 of boosting my hatch: Fab of the mainfold
Ok so, I'm in the process of boosting my hatch.
I decided step 1 would be to fab a manifold.
The part for the fabs are as follows:
ACE stainless 6 90 deg 1.5" schedule 10 pipe
ACE stainless 2 45 deg 1.5" schedule 10 pipe
ACE stainless 1 ft schedule 10 pipe
Vibrant T3 collector from importdps
Vibrant T3 flange from importdps
BMC mild steel b-series head flange.
With the help of my friend furyof4, we were able to produce the following manifold.
Not a expert job, but not too bad for a couple of guys in a basement.
The next steps are as follows:
1) Get the collector and primaries welded together.
2) Ovalize the headside ends of the primaries.
3) Drill a 1.375" hole for the waste gate
4) Weld the wastegate pipe and flange to the manifold.
I will post some new pics when I get the primaries and colletor welded together.
Added results on pg 5.

Back from the dead.
I got the fabrication welded up. The current configuration is not the prettiest but nothing that a little grinding can't take care of.
Based on this attempt, it seems that the most important thing is to make accurate cuts such that the welder does not have to fill in large gaps. I will most likely try this again in the summer.

Looks better than what you described over the phone. lol Let me know when you want the wastegate hole cut.

Ok, so I bought a Holset turbo from ebay. While their is thread discussing the virtues of Holset turbo, I have several friends running them and they report no problems.
Here are some of the ebay pics.
If it needs a rebuild it should be no problem. I will post up the rebuild on here. The kits are $60 off ebay. I will check with Tonio to find out the cost of a rebuild kit from Holset.
Also, I downloaded the service manual. It seems pretty straight forward on the rebuild.

The turbo is in very good condition. It has almost no shaft play. I have one bolt seized on the exhaust housing so I'll heat it up to remove it. I think that is pretty common on used turbos. I also pick'd up a v-band assembly for the connection between the exhaust housing and the exhaust housing.
Here's a couple of pics of the trial fit up.
One thing I discovered, the manifold flange will need a to be machined and I may drill out the threads and use washer face nuts. It should make it a little easier to bolt up.
This coming sat, I am going to fab'up the downpipe at IMW. I'll post pics of the results.

^^^Thanks
Just for future holset users, my feed line is -4AN line. On the sandwich or T-fitting side, I am using a male 1/8" NPT to -4AN. On the turbo side, I'm using a -4AN to 12mm X 1.5 male flare.

Ok, so this thread is morphing to a build/fab thing. Once, I get the set-up complete, I will post up the dyno tune results.
I recently got a package of parts that included: -4AN SS line, -4AN to 1/8" fitting, -4AN to 12 mm X 1.5 fitting, 3" v-band assembly, 38 mm wastegate flange, 3" OD U-bend, single v-band flange, O2 bung, -10AN weld bund for the oil pan, and a T3 drain, etc. Props to importdps (Rick)
Any way, here's a pic of some of the stuff. I plan to fab the downpipe and finish the manifold this weekend at IMW (d-rob).
