Default Sprung -VS- UnSprung Clutch Differences? Act 6 Puck

Looking to upgrade my clutch as I will be making more power this year.

I found a great deal on the Act 6puck clutch

$240 Shipped for unsprung
$260 Shipped for sprung

Comes with heavy duty pressure plate

What are the differences between sprung and unsprung? Is there any holding force difference or is it just for noise?

Just looking for some opinions

Thanks

i have heard that some sprung clutches, the springs like to "pop" out. BUt I would say that the unsprung is more a race clutch, and is a little more harsh engagement.

the sprung clutchs are just a lil easier on the engagement just as ^ said. unsprung hubs are more for the track, but are also streetable. im rollin with an exedy cermetallic 3 puck. engagement is kinda harsh, but the grab is out of this world

I would go with the non sprung clutch, I have seen fare to many of the springs pop out of the sprung clutches. Also may I ask where you are getting that clutch from cause that is a hell of a deal.

I also read that the sprung clutches are much better for daily driving because they make less chatter noises and are a little more forgiving, not just engaged or not engaged

i'd rather do a clutch over the whole tranny. go with a sprung hub, it is much more street friendly. if you have a puck setup you will still see a little chatter however the unsprung puck with be like a light switch either on or off, simple as that

the sprung also helps dampen "noise" and if you want longetivity on the transmission and engine itself get the sprung clutch. The engagment will not be smoother because of the springs. Get the unsprung if you don't care too much about replacing transmissions over time and want a better grab.

90% of the clutches I replace had the springs fall out/break etc.

yes^ everyone thinks that is what they are for but its to compensate for the non linear output of a reciprocating engine. The marcel springs (or lack thereof) and puck material are what control the engagement feel

For any D series people out there, IMO you are fools to not run unsprung centers since the clutches cost twice what the tranny does so its a great way to upgrade the reliability of your drivetrain.

im running that act unsprung and hd pressure plate right now, its occasionally annoying, but ive driven through manhattan with it and it could be worse. i paid a considerable amount more than your listed price, so i think its a deal

So unsprung is what I should be shooting for?

I have absolutely no traffic on my commute, a few stoplights, but no crawl speed driving

This is for a 88 D16 Si tranny if I didnt mention it
