Some sohc swap pics =P
I pretty much stay in this forum so I'll post this here. It's FI related Like 2 thursdays ago we did the swap. I didn't expect it to take as long as it did. We started pulling the cx motor at about 6pm and it took until 5am the next morning before the z6 was in and ready to fire
I don't know where I would be without InfamousRS. He put in a lot of hours assembling the motor, not to mention all the help he has given me.
The D16Z6 has
-CP 75.5mm pistons
-Eagle rods
-All new OEM essentials
-ACL Bearings
-Posted block with stock sleeves
-JDM D15b LSD trans(I love having short gearing again )
-ACT XTSS clutch
-ARP headstuds
InfamousRS has the better camera so he has all the build pics Here are a couple though..
Beefy pistons!
InfamousRS puttin the motor together
Me pulling the mount bolt
Out comes the cx motor!
The SOHC hotness is in
I put the t belt cover on right after I took the pics(I don't like running without one) Also the compression number is still on the valve cover from the junkyard, lol. I need to scrub it off.
Again, thanks to InfamousRS and the 2 others that helped me with the swap. Upon first start up, the motor was knocking loudly. We thought maybe the machine shop bored the block wrong causing loud piston slap.. So we pulled the entire head back off, measured some things and pulled a piston out. We slapped everything back together and it ran like a champ. Turns out the timing belt was off one tooth, and the fact that we held the cx disi up for startup. The ex distributor I bought was bad so we just wanted to hear it start. Lesson learned though
The motor has about 150 miles on it and running great. We did the rough break in. The motor pulls! The compression is higher than 9:1 since the pistons are out of the hole a bit. I'm hoping to break 300whp but who knows. Turbo kit is going on soon. My fingers are tired. thanks for loooking

Re: Some sohc swap pics =P (underrated)
I am pretty sure the gearing is the same as the USDM d-series ex tranny's. However it feels shorter, but I think it's just because I haven't drove with an ex tranny in a while. Cruising at 60-65mph it's at about 2700 rpm or so.

Turbo will go on as soon as I get the money to afford tuning, lol. Also the back door on the intercooler has to be re-done(doesn't line up with turbo) and quite a few things welded. The setup consists of:
-Lovefab SST
-Spearco 24x8x3 cooler with backdoor
-Greddy type-s bov mounted on intercooler
-T3/T04e 50 trim .63
-tial 38mm gate
-3" dp, 3"cat, 3" straight pipe exhaust
-Hondata S200b with AEM FPR, Walbro intank 255 and rc 550cc saturated injectors
-Turbo xs dual stage boost controller(I'm hoping it doesn't spike..)
I'll probably run 8psi daily, and 1 bar and the track and sometimes on the street. I'm praying the sleeves and clutch will hold. With a good tuner I know the sleeves will. They better anyway
