Default Some more cam + boost debate...cylinder pressures...

This question has been bugging me for the last couple days:

Does having a more aggressive camshaft effectively reduce the cylinder pressures?

As I see it, a more aggressive camshaft allows the engine to breath more effectively and efficiently. By letting more air in and out of the engine, you increase VE and power. This to me at least, is exactly what boost is doing without having to pre-compress the air before it enters the cylinder.

So this rational tells me that having cams doesn't necessarily reduce cylinder pressures, but reduces the boost pressure needed to make a certain amount of power. This can be beneficial as I see it, as there is a lower IAT. I'm wondering how this would be beneficial to high HP stock block engines as well, not just the ubber HP freaks.

Thoughts?

A more aggressive camshaft (more lift) will reduce the dynamic compression in the motor, thus reducing the cylinder pressure.

Hrmm I guess I never thought about dynamic compression.

Damn, I really want some cams now...lol.

but back on topic...

Is that drop in cylinder pressure before and after the compression stroke? I'm finding it hard to understand how there could be less pressure in the cylinder during the compression stroke and make more power...hrmm.

Anyone else want to add?

This really makes me want to add some basic N/A cams to my setup later on down the road to see how it compares to just GSR cams.
