I have a 00 Civic EX with a D15b currently and I am at a major crossroads of what I want to do. A part of me is considering to keep this and go boost, the other part is saying save and go b16..

What are some realistic expectations from this motor on boost 5-7psi. I want to have no issues for daily drive-ability at all. I still want to be able to get in and start it up right away every day with no worries. I don't want to get into doing a lot of building the motor to start, just applying a turbo kit to the motor stock.

This might not get me the type of power I'd like, which is why I need more information. I don't know actual HP numbers, but I want to know what type of cars will I be able to keep up with.

I have more questions, but I'll start with this and progress forward. Thank you guys for all your information and help!!

your power goal should be tops 220hp for reliability on a stock block.

also buy the go-autoworks kit which is a complete kit. if you don't beat on it everyday, it will be as reliable as a na car

I was looking into their kit as an option but I might piece together a kit on my own. I see that 200-215WHP is a realistic option.. I'm sure that I will want to turn up the boost later slightly, but I'm not going to want anything much more out of it...

well if you turn up the boost, its gonna be less reliable unless you build the engine, which costs an extra $1000 before labor costs. but after that, you're lookin at a pretty badass DD that can handle 350hp without blowing up

I say keep it at 220 as well, you can push it to 270 once in a while. Your tune needs to be on point though and conservative. Run higher boost and less timing to make your power goals. Avoid high rpms, keep rev limit to 7500rpm or less (unless you have ARP rod bolts 7900rpm. Avoid heavy wheel spin rev limiter bouncing. Use high octane/race fuel or e85.

200-220 sounds like i would be happy with it.. Now, when on boost obviousy your going thru your gears much faster... When your on the highway in 5th gear which is more top end speed, how does your boost come into play. I dont want to sound slow, but wouldnt there come a point where your boost would kick in and then you have no extra gear to shift to so your just high in your rpms?

I think their is a boost by gear program that solves the problem, I might be juss talkin out my *** though on this one

or it depends on your turbo, if you have a small one you'll definitely be in boost, of you got a mid turbo, you won't be in full boost, just a little

Yea, cause I know how I like to drive.. not so much of that speeding in the city stuff.. I do want more power.. but I when im on the highway.. I sure want to explore 120+ and I got to thinking and I said topping out in boost might be a problem..

or grab a 5th gear from a hx/vx tranny, should give you a little more room

I was thinking of going with a different tranny all together.. no an ex... but maybe like a cx or something to get longer gears, but I have to research is that the only difference or is there more to it...

if you boost it your always going to want more, to get more you must build. if you want it to be a reliable car as a dd get the b16, if u want it to be a reliable car as a turbo dd build it to handle the stress of boost.

What is a good turbo for the d15b? I'm reading and seeing t3/t4 but I'm looking for more information and more options. Incase later I want to build the motor slightly, I dont think I would ever fully build it.

Also from stock, in the sense of turbo, what work is related in building? Is that pistons, rods, ect? I don't want to be fully build but I don't mind doing a little beyond a stock motor after i've gotten the turbo setup on.

I have a turbonetics t3/t4 50 trim .42/.48 and @ 10psi i see full boost around 3200rpm and it holds strong to 7400rpm.

I've had my D15B boosted since Aug. and drive it 350 miles a week for work and get on it a few times a day, never had any problems with it, just regular maintenance (oil changes).

I plan on turning up the boost in the spring to see what this motor can do before it goes boom, I'm going to try for 300whp but we'll see.

I have a Z6 with fj's vitara bottom end kit and a built head with bisimoto everything ready to go in.
