Default so i feel like saving some bucks on my build

i'm basically broke, due to my business not making much money yet.....

but, i wanna drop my semi-built d-series in...but i have to build it first.

what i have:

vitara pistons/hastings rings
eagle rods
good block, about 100K on it.... never been apart yet though.

assuming that when i pull it apart everything looks nice bearing wise, i figure it would be ok to just plastigauge the bearing specs for the rods and get those from my honda parts guy, and just re-use the mains.... i assume they will be good, because this engine seems to have been taken care of really well. about the cleanest d16a6 i've ever seen...owned by an old dude, honda serviced, etc.

i will be doing all new seals and stuff, but re-using the oil pump probably.

i figure that if anything happens with the bottom end, its no big deal, as its a stock sleeve d16a6, and the only thing i'd wanna save would be the eagle rods.....and i dont think that spinning a bearing or anything would ruin them completely...

seem like a good idea? i'm only shooting for 275 whp....so nothing crazy, just a quick weekend/evening car.... the fiance' wont let me drop tons of dough on it...and i dont have the dough anyways. i will be using my current turbo setup, which i feel is perfect, and managment will be a street-tuned w/wideband setup consisting of my current dsm 450's/walbro 255, and a motorola 2.5 bar map sensor, and turboedit...tuned by my man Splitime. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR THE ADVICE on the bearings...

I have the same build, but I would throw new rod and mains at it. They aren't that expensive. I am also reusing my oil pump.

thanks man.......how your build working out? have you put miles on it? i'm curious how long it'll last....i imagine with cast pistons it should last a long time with good tuning.

any other opinions?

It is getting ready to go in the car sometime soon. We have to paint my sister's hatch, and pull a motor out of one that I just got for my old motor. After they are both done, then I can swap my new motor in. So it might be awhile. Just slap a good tune on it and it should be fine.

yeah, tuning isnt a problem....ostrich and wideband and turboedit make for a simpler tuning situation, so thats nice.

just havent seen any long-term write ups on vitara pistons. guess it hasnt been that long yet, and no-news is good news usually....

100k miles on an oil pump n reusing it isnt a smart idea....would u like to have a couple hundred dollar engine fail becuase of a $75 oil pump?

I reused my pump with sucess, just make sure you run an oil pressure gauge and keep an eye on it with any motor thats been rebuilt wether the pump is new or used. As long as the pressure is good there is nothing to worry about and there is no reason for the motor to fail unless you are stupid and drive on low oil pressure. Dont forget to hone the cylinders though so the rings will seat.

you guys know if a d16z6 oil pump is the same as a d16a6? or interchangeable? my buddy has a brand new one....thinking about picking it up.

The only oil pumps I wouldn't trust are the y8 ones. Main bearings can be reused 99% of the time if you have to. The rod bearings are the bitches. I'd replace them if I had the money, but if not, I'm sure if you clean them good and check them out they should be good for reuse as well.
