Smoking out of breather? Is it ok to reroute to intake pipe?
J/curious if Its ok to recirculate the breather side of the valve cover back into the charge pipe just before the throttle body. This way there is no smoke going everywhere in the engine bay? I have an Oil Catch can on the other side where the gas is recirculated back into the Intake manifold.
Also The breather side is supposed to suck in air, So If I have air pushing out and my compression is good accross the board Could this mean I have a problem with the valvetrain. I don't really think its blow by because of the compression being solid. ???

no.
You want to connect it infront of the turbo inlet. where it is SUCKING not blowing.
if you ran it the way you just mentioned, it will cause it to pressurize the crank case and engine, and cause oil leaks and can even cause the motor to go BOOM!

Re: (oscarmayer)
So, Put the hose right in front of the compressor where the piping starts that way there is vacuum instead of boost? This is the breather so its supposed to be taking in air to the crank case. so sucking all the air out on the breather side and the recirculation side is gonna cause a lot of vacuum... Is too much vacuum in the crankcase bad?

i would leave it open, engine needs to breathe under more hp, restricting that will only lead to more problems.. btw, you should have absolustely no smoke or traces of oil or its a bad sign..
and if you're running a filter on breather valve, thats further restricting the flow

Sounds like you have broken a ring land on the piston. There should be no visible smoke coming from the valve cover breather. Only clean air pulses from the crankcase. Do a leak down and compression test to find the bad cylinders. Good luck!

evacuate it into the air. If you are getting excessive blowby do you really want to put those oil vapors into your cylinders causing your knock threshold to lower?

Yep, had the same thing once, drove it hard for anouther week or so and not only did that pretty blue smoke sneak out the breather, but spewed out the exhuast too....blew the rings and lands.

Same thing happened to me, I had alot of blowby smoke coming out of the PCV system and the top of the valve cover at IDLE. there will be some blowby at WOT but no smoke should come out during idle. Sounds like you hurt a ringland.

My compression is good accross the board no variations more/less than 10%!!! AGGGhhh! lol... Sucks looks like I will be tearing it down this weekend! Thanks a lot for everyones help. Gotta get this fixed whenever I drive my car it looks like such a POS smoking as much as it does.

A compression test might not give you accurate results. You have to do a complete leakdown test, that will find your problem. I hade 3 broken ringlands and still had good compression.

My compression on my 110k miles B16A2 (standard internals) 205,205,205,175.Wet test was 240,240,240,245
Number 4 piston had a cracked ringland.Drove it for seven months like that!
Drove perfectly, just used a lot of oil & smoked after 7k rpm

She still pulls hard and runs smooth, I was just wondering if there was any way to reroute the smoke from the breather so that it wasn't so noticeable at a stop with out damaging the engine further...
Btw, what is the most likely cause of damaging the ringlands, det.? J/c because I monitor the w/b religously and really never see it go above 12? IAT and everything else is cool, no knocking noticeable either... maybe just too much boost? lol... 8psi
