Default smoking after 190 miles n new rings

well my si had about 80k miles when i decided to go turbo. everthing was cool for about a month untill little by little it started smoking. it got to the point where it wouldnt even idle w/out smoking. somy friend rebuildnt the bottom end, new rings, bearings, honed. i never went past 3k before 50 miles and i havent gone past 3.5k till this day. it smokes a good amount when the engine is cold... i have to let it idle for about 3 minutes and then it stops. and then when im driving it doesnt smoke.. untill all of a sudden it'll just thow a puff or two and then stop again and not smoke till maybe next time i drive it. well im a little worried... and im not sure what it can be. ohh and i am NOT boosting at the present moment.

Did you take your downpipe off to see if your leaking oil from the turbo? Maybe its not the rings thats smoking. Just an idea.........

but if it was the turbo... wouldnt it smoke constantly? its a garret t3 with an internal wastegate... so i just un hooked the wastegate so i wouldnt boost.

well that was about the dumbest breaking method i've ever heard. You probably didn't seat your rings. I hope you didn't use synthetic on top of it all!

You should have started the ****** up, beat the living **** out of it (search google, motoman breakin method) and then changed the oil. Then it'd be good to go.

Well the exact procedure is more like:

1) Start car, warm up
2) Get on empty highway, 3rd gear pull at 1/4 throttle near redline, coast back to like 20mph in gear, no brakes
3) 1/2 throttle pull to closer to redline, same coasting
4) 3/4 throttle pull to about the same, same coasting
5) full throttle from like 2500 - redline, let coast back to like 2500 again

6) repeat if desired.
7) change oil (still dino oil)
8) your motor is broken in + rings are seated. 3k miles on dino oil, then your done.

Check your valve seals. That's what mine did when I had on bad.
Oh yeah..not a very good way to break your motor in either.

wouldnt unhooking the wastegate be a bad thing?

high oil pressure could be pushing oil past the seals in the turbocharger, boost or no boost.

how big is your oil feed line mine is only 1/16 of a inch if you have to much oil pressure you will blow the turbo seals and take on alot of oil too. just a thought

personaly i would remove the turbo kit and see if it continues to happen. either way if your rings went bad or not u will have to pull the turbo. so pull it to check if your its your engine or your turbo leaking the oil. also check your charge pipes to see if their is oil in their. also do a compression test and a leakdown test to see if your rings are leaking do this first and if the numbers are good then pull the turbo.
