Sleath mode: Stock exhaust on FI car with cutout.... Pros & cons?
In a few months I'm moving to Phoenix, and the thing I'm most worried about is thieves!! First thing on the list is to get the intercooler anodized black... in an effort to make my car less attractive to theives and cops, I want to put a stock exhaust system on, then put a qtec e-cutout on the downpipe... I realize the performance will suffer when i'm running the stock exhaust system, but when i really want to get into boost i can just go to open downpipe... otherwise i can enjoy a stock looking/sounding car...
So what do you think are the pros/cons of this setup? lame idea? will it hurt the turbo or motor? super idea???
please feel free to post up some advice, good or bad.
thanks in advance for your time.

my mccord just recently stopped working. it got stuck open. i think the fuse went or somehting. i need to send it back to them since they have a warranty. i think that your idea would work as long as you get it tunned for open downpipe otherwise it will run rich. just a though

whats the point of running on cutout on a car that has obviously had work done to it? above. Also, Phoenix is not that bad. I live down in tucson, 45min from the border and I have never had a problem. Just don't be stupid. don't leave your car out in places and make sure the alarm is loud and you have a club. I'm a professional locksmith and I know that even the best people have a hard time when there are more steps to go through to steal a car. They rather move to the sh$t can next to your car, rather than getting caught trying to steal yours. On the inside of the doors of my teg, I have door poppers that make picking veryyyy difficult and I put nylon sleeves over the linkage to make it harder to tool. My windows are double limo, so breaking them is harder.....

Re: (warric_k)
theft in phx is the highest in the nation if im not mistaken. just make sure your car cant get stolen. kill switch is what i rely on. they cant start the car without a fuel pump.

Cut-out with stock exhuast very stealthy and they sound mean....my friends dsm has one right by the turbine it sounds like a tractor when he opens the cutout....def scares people...but when ya look you see stock exhuast ....benefit for him is that his car will add more fuel when he opens it via the maf...you will just have to run really rich with the stock exhaust so when you open the cutout you are getting enough fuel for the more air your pushing out with the cutout....
A 2.5" exhuast and stock looking muffler would be ok too...you dont have to get a bling blingin muffler or coffee can....and the car wont be that loud with the turbo a quiet muffler and cat....Then you can just run the car the same all the time no change in a/f ratio (helps on gas mileage)
The fuel pump switch idea is good too, me and my friend have been going do that to my car for like 2 yrs now but never get around to it (i live in the ghetto at school, scary stuff)...
They all get 2 thumbs up from me just pick which will work best for you and good luck with not having it stolen....

its a lot worse than flagstaff, and my brothers car was stolen from here not too long ago... yes, i'm paranoid, but the LAST thing i want is my car getting stolen... also its not SOLEY for theft, but it'll be nice to cruise on the highway or around town with a fairly stock sounding car.
BTW, thanks a lot for all the responses and pics!

Couldnt you just have a 3" exhaust system that dumps out unerneath your car, and then have just the stock muffler hanging there. In my opinion its better cuz you probably dont wanna run such a small exhaust or a loud *** cut out all day.

Re: (DownBoyDown)
Don't be afraid to pull your fuel pump or ECU fuse if your parking your car overnight in an area that makes you uncomftorable. My car has so many extra systems that I have implimented into it that I can easilly set it up in a few seconds so that NOBODY can steal it except me. You can't reverse engineer wiring that their is no schematics for. Lucky for me, I have a DSM that would probaby not start if stolen, and if it did the engine would lock up soon afterwards so thieves wouldn't get very far.
