Default Skunk2 Pro series 1 cams...vtec not right

My car was recently tuned with Hondata S200 and it made 375whp and 298ft/lbs at 15psi on a t3/to4e 60-1 turbo. The problem is on the dyno when vtec was set at anything below 7000rpm it would loose power and sort of bog. Fuel pressure is good, everything is fine, except the fact the vtec when it is set after 7000rpm it wont bog, but it also wont gain any top end power. We have boiled it down to perhaps my manifold being too restrictive, or that the cams skunk2 pro series 1 are too aggressive...any other ideas? Below is a pic of my manifold and my set-up...I know I have already made a thread about this, but it was lost in translation.

I've seen it on a few cars that i have tune. Your cams are too aggressive for the turbo manifold/turbo setup that you have. If you put some stock h22 cams back in then vtec would come on and make power like it should.

Which brings me to my next question. If I put the stock cams back in and vtec works correctly, do you suppose I will make more power than if I were to leave the pro series 1's in?

It is possible. Just got done retuning a SCd car that was over calmed in the beginning by switching back to stock cams we picked up 25whp and 40ft/lbs at the same boost level

Yep this happened to me also a long time ago. Wasn't the Pro1s though. Went with an aggressive overlap cam and power suffered below 7000. Put in a high lift, low overlap cam and car woke up from 4500-8000. Anything over 8000 car didn't produce anything though. I would suggest if you aren't planning on revving high, get rid of the Pro's or hold on to them for future plans. At first I couldn't figure out why this was happening no matter how I changed the tune. But a buddy of mine with an OUTLAW 9 second car gave me some tips and told me about the cams. Back then I was on the bandwagon thing and that really changed my mind about everything I read on a forum. Put the stock cams back in and good luck with the car man!

Tuner's are what you want. Pro's are overkill

Great thanks guys. I will keep the pro series cams for a future build, but I will test out the stock cams to see the difference. Good to know there's others that have had this happen

im guessin you did not research your build and just brought parts that you seen worked on HIGH HP cars and thought "hey these will work great on my low hp car"

WRONG it doesnt work that way. go back to the stock cam or get the skunk2 TUNER series cam with cam gears, also you need a better manifold (something along the lines of mini ram, ramhorn, or something else) like it was stated earlier your cam is to aggressive for your set-up

your welcome but just to add something different, the H22 heads usually like the stock cams. also play around with cam gear settings if you didnt try that.

possible the intake manifold and restrictive exhaust housing causing that

on my N/A setup I was using Pro 1's and Victor X, turbo setup same with a topmount billet 67 5lbs made over 300whp standing next to R6's I lost a little down low from ITR's but top end was insane, from 7-10k it would really come in hard even to limiter it pulled doing over 110 in 2nd gear lol
