Skunk vs JG

I'm boosting my car with a rev hard kit and want to get an intake manifold at the same time. I just can't decide which one to get, the skunk2 or the JG Victor X. Which one is better for turbo application? And is it a good idea to get a new manifold, or will the stock one do just fine for 9psi off of a t04?
Thanks,
Dre

Re: Skunk vs JG (CivicKilla)

Stock one is fine for 9psi.

IMO the skunk one is better lower boost applications and the JG one is better for higher boost applications.

i coulda swore this thread was titled "Junk vs JG" at first glance.

Just because the plenum is bigger doesn't necessarily mean it's bettter. Don't be fooled by the picture.

You have to pick the one that fits your application the best.
To some people I would suggest skunk2 and for other people I would suggest the edelbrock one.

low boost - skunk2
mild to high boost - edelbrock.

... what do you consider mild boost?... 10psi?... more/less... just curious...

Ive heard so much about this JG this JG that...I think its all a hondatech myth. I may get it, but my friend said he thought his car felt slower with the JG compaired to his skunk, he was running 1 bar.

Mild boost is over 14psi.

Then your friend has issues. I have a JG manifold and felt a tremendous increase in hp. Cmon there is nothing better than a big plenum and short intake runners (provided you have enough boost to fill up the air in the plenum). Do the research, the JG one is dynoproven better than the skunk2.

Yah well you know that dyno sheet that you all say in turbo magazine was Jojo Callos' car. Im not saying your not right, that it wont make good power. I have just not seen any truth to how much better this manifold supposedly is. Im not the type of person to believe every magazine I read.

Re: Skunk vs JG (CivicKilla)

Man, you guys are totally split. But I guess I'll just go with the JG since I'm planning to build my engine and run like 14-16lbs, unless you guys got something else to say. Oh, and did you guys see a teg like mine run 1/4 with 9psi or 14-16-what they get?

Just a question do you own the JG manifold? And I dont believe any magazine I read I have dynoed my car with it and you should own or use the product before judging those magazines you read because there is some truth to it.

I know of 3 people that have dyno 3's to back up lose's from either itr or skunk when they switched to JG...On a Na car atleast they lost a lot of midrange, and even top end, I dont know why the JG looks like it works, maybe on a stock head all the benefit of it is lost. On a boosted car I have no clue, but I ran a skunk 2 all last year, and made plenty of power with it. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emcocktl.gif I would use it on the new car, but we are going with the Venom manifold, and a 68mm holley, but dont sleep on the Skunk or ITR, sometimes as close to factory works best. I have the JG Proseries head with the Victor X mani. Just from experiencing 11 psi the car had tremendous gains over the stock intake mani. It may have lost a little down low but once it spooled it felt real nice. At around 7 grand you could actually feel the car pulling harder and harder vs the stock mani. On a boosted set up I highly encourage the JG mani. Its badass https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif

Re: Skunk vs JG (Boosted99Si)

Not FI related, but with my 86mm 2.1L gsr engine i was considering skunk2 or the victor x. I wasnt worried about losing any midrange torque since the 2.1L is going to have an adundance of it. After searching, and asking around i am going to stick with the skunk2 manifold for that engine, since the JG gains weren't that great n/a over the skunk2. Take the skunk2 vs JG arguement to FI related engines, I think the greater displacement will yield the most noticable gains with the JG. I am sticking with the JG on my 2.0 engine. The engine can actually start filling the plenum pretty quickly with air flow from the displacement and turbo.

Jason has used it and so has Kevin and he didnt like it...Im sure you know kevin with the red turbo coupe jason. Any ways until I see proof without a magazines name on it I will stick to what I know works well.

Re: Skunk vs JG (Elite Hatch)

i have a skunk2 on my b16 i felt an improvement over the stock manifold but then again i have never ran a jg manifold. the only thing i thinnk might be better about the skunk is a smaler turbo hat might not move as much air as a larger 1 will benefit due the smaller plenium it keeps velocity up and will help out through the rpm range. a larger turbo will benefit from the jg setup since it can move alot of air and any loss in air velocity will not be felt due to the large amount of air you can pump in to your motor.i wouldhave to agree less boost is better with the skunk but more boost from a larger turbo i'd go with the jg.

Isnt the Skunk2 manifold a redone ITR manifold? If so, then wont there only be some minimal gains from it over stock. granted the ITR is better than most stock ones, wont you want to get something that is not near stock level, like the skunk2?

what do you guys think is better for 100 shot direct port nitrous(B18b)?
JG or Skunk2?

Re: Skunk vs JG (whatVTEC)

I have been doing a little big of research on IM because I am going to make one. By just looking at them jg looks better because of the bigger plenum and shorter runners, but they are still fat. But the shape of the plenum is not the best way to go on either one of the manifold shown in the pictures above. The plenum should be like /_____/ not l_____l. But thats what I have gathered. If the jg was just a little bit smaller it would be good for "mild" boost.

i am running the jg on my b18c5 NA , ihave no vtec right now because i need a speed sensor , i will let u know how i feel when i can actuaully DRIVE my car , this manifold will also be being used on high c.r. sleeved ls/vtec NA (THIS PROJECT IS IN THE WORKS)
