What kind is it? Tials are open at idle but close once you get on the throttle a little bit.

I think you are wrong Islandsi, wastegate should be closed at idle, its basically a pressure relief valve.

You are thinking about blow off valves. BOV's require VACUUM to open. Wastegate/WG actuators require BOOST PRESSURE to open.

EDIT: think about it...why would a wastegate need to be open at partial throttle (which is vacuum) where exhaust gas flow is the lowest? The wastegate needs to divert exhaust gas flow when it is the highest, which is in boost.

Misread this thread. I was thinking of BOV.
You're still wrong about the Tial BOV being closed at idle though.

::Edit::
IF you have the valve hooked up to the intake mani like you're supposed to at least. If you don't have the nipple going to a vacuum source the valve is going to stay shut until the boost in the charge pipe is higher than the spring pressure in the BOV, causing it to open.

alright the valve that opens and closes to allow exhaust gas to exit before the turbo has a slight opening around the edges my friend has the exact same w/g and it also has the opening all around the valve too is this normal for every w/g --oh yeah these w/g are tials.

Do you have that ring installed onto the WG flange between the manifold and WG flange?

Ahhh yes, the fire ring. Little silver metal gasket looking thing that you may have thrown away because you didn't know what the hell it was.
It's supposed to go between your WG and the manifold.

And if not installed that would explain the exhaust just pissing right by the valve and right out the wastegate dump. This would also keep him from building up boost since a lot of the exhaust is going to get routed out the dump instead of down through the turbo.

yes there is a ring that seats inside the flange, it is made that way for manufacturing purposes, ie so they can get the valve in there, then the ring allows for it to seat properly.
