Should I Buy Turbo S2000?
I looked at a turbo S2000 and while it "seems" like a good deal I realize I don't know anything about it.
What kind of things should I watch out for?
I test drove it but did not really have enough time to get a feel of its character.
I did feel what seemed like a lump in the power delivery just once in the test drive.
It is extensively modified - supposed to be 6psi boost. 2002 model with 19k miles.
FMIC, 18" wheels with Spoon springs and Spoon "everything" according to the owner.
Dual Apexi N1 exhaust.
How much should I offer?
Very stiff riding - the springs would "bink" over bridge expansion joints. Almost too stiff.
Should I just wait for 2nd gen WRX STI?

Re: Should I Buy Turbo S2000? (joeg26er)
i guess i will begin....
1. Make sure that the car does not smoke any during boost and regular driving.
2. Do a compression test and leakdown test.
3. If you can take it to the dyno and check the numbers and A/F ratio.
I know some of it sounds extreme but those are some precautions i would take before buying any turbo or used car.
As how much to offer, depends on the setup. size of the turbo, type of manifold. Fuel management. stock/built motor. to many things to consider.

Honestly the s2000 is a very nice base to work from in terms of forced induction. The entire head from the valves to the intake manifold will flow super well, so off the bat you are getting a superb head package that you wont have to touch. The block is also structurially sound. Having taken one apart, they are the next generation b-series to say the least.
There arent any "kits" in my eyes that have came out that are worthwhile except possibly speedcraft. The kit looked great in build and parts, but was expensive and I believe the shop went out of business. The only way to go is custom for now.
One notable downfall to the s2000 is the rear transfer case breaking with launching the car hard. There were several transfer case failures with the release of the Comptech supercharger kit and launching at 6K+ off the line. To me that launching technique is begging for broken drivetrain with slicks on pretty much any car on the road today. Comptech conviently makes a stronger rear transfer case you can purchase with your own core, something you might want to look into.
As far as engine management is concerned, the AEM is really the only way to go with the whole plug and play idea. Hondata isnt going to support the s2000 ecu since the engine has DIS, and its supposed to be fairly different than the new SI/RSX ecu technology (I dont know this for a fact, just hearsay).
Having owned an s2000 for three years and keeping it stock is probably the best thing I could have done. While modifying the car is very very tempting, its opening up a can or worms as with any Honda for which you just burn through money. Except the car costs 30,000 to begin with and the money turns into an inferno real quick.

agreed 9500 rpm and boost here!!! awd and boost is good if you are looking for 12's. after that drivetrain starts to break!! its not as cheap as a hond a tranny either. especially the new sti with variable distribution. bet that tranny is 5k easy.just my experience with an awd eclipse and an 02' wrx. both went 12.2 and not a tenth faster.
