Should i bail out on my turbo civic and get a wrx??
I have a '00 civic si with benson resleeved block, je pistons, eagle rods, aem ems, fjo wideband, t3/t4e 60trim, msd ignition, aeromotive fpr, and 880cc injectors. I've had the car for 3 years and had it turbo'd for 2 years. Well, this car has been nothing but problems and a money pit.
THis has become a sad day in life, all of my friends are selling out and getting rid of all their turbo parts. I'm like the only one that still has turbo . I'm not doing this cause my friends are selling out tho. I just began thinking about how much money i've been putting into this.
If i sell this, i will get a white wrx. Already looked at them. What do you guys think?

no matter what car you have, if you plan on fixing it up, all cars are money pits. But it sounds like a good idea if you are ready for a change.

Seems like you have put alot of money/time into that car... and looks like your setup is pretty much complete.... get a beater car?

Haha, i know what you mean... i still see my car as a dinky little civic. So i can understand wanting something new, but it really sucks when you have to sell all that **** and lose all that money/time you put into your car

i dont care about the time so much as the money. I learned a lot...how to completely build an engine and tune it. It was fun, well not really..haha
Well, at some point ur gonna have to bail out...i guess my time is now.
Plus, i cant seem to turn down the idea of a brand new wrx.

if u feel like its time for a change, go for it. i have a friend who is 20 and has had 8 different cars since he was 16. from eclipse RS, 300zx non turbo, many hb's (EF, EG's, etc) to bmw m3's to integra gsr to now a 89 240sx. i must say that he has learned so much about all types of cars. the only thing i disagree with him was giving up that m3. i mean, civics and 240s are cool, but ****, its a ****** m3!
same with your situation. i believe your car is fast, well built, and a lot of time was put into it. but reality is, a civic will always be a civic. which isnt bad. until u put it up against a car thats totally out of its class such as a M3 (or in your case, a WRX). i say go for it. a wrx stock drives real nice. a few mod's and u have yourself a mid 13 second car WITH A/C!

learn to tune your car yourself, that will save money
headgasket can be done in one day yourself for under a hundred bucks
You need a second car. You need something as a beater or daily driver, and then you won't mind tuning the Si on the weekends. I did it the opposite way though, my beater is my drag car. That way I still get to pimp it during the week. I got my 92 hatchback for $300 and have spent probably 13k on it. It isn't done, but I'm not frustrated by that too bad because I can still get around in my truck.

Yes every car is a money pit but going turbo only makes it worse. If I had to do it all over again I would of bought a factory turbo car. When it comes down to it puting a turbo on a car that was ment to be all motor will always give you nothing but problems. I would of rather spent money on a car that was built to support a turbo to begin with. 99% of the time alot of the little **** has already been taken care of with a factory turbo car.

Re: Should i bail out on my turbo civic and get a wrx?? (Cody)
Ive got a civic and a wrx. They are completely different animals....
So it would be a tough call as to whether or not I would replace a civic with a wrx.
the wrx has a lot of potential, and can be pretty quick with minor mods, but I dont think that it has ever given me the same level of enjoyment as my civic does... and I dont think that the wrx will EVER handle as well as my civic does with only minor suspension mods.
BTW: my wrx has exhaust, EBC, intake, STshifter, silicone IC hoses and my best time to date is a 13.3 @ 103--- if that helps you with your decision.

Re: Should i bail out on my turbo civic and get a wrx?? (BoostedSi)
I was in the same boat, however i hated having a car all hooked up that broke all the time (just little things) and then the fact that i was still paying for the car made it ten times worse. so I went with this setup.
92 nissan 240se se $500
94 sr20det redtop clip $3000
Complete silvia front end $800
full paint job $3000
exhaust $440
DP $129
Mid pipe $89
wheels and tires $1000
Bomex bumper $550
So there you have it my car is pritty much done and was under 10grand out the door! My civic was like 10 grand in mods and 16g's for the car. And the insurance was $70 a month. My 240 is $30 a month. Yeah the civic was faster due to the nissan motor being stock but still, there no feeling like a car that is turbo for the factory. Been driving it 4 months and not a single problem or oil leak or anything yet. And no matter how fast my civic go too it was never more fun to drive than the 240. If i was going to do another honda it would be a crx or a 92 hatch that i would have payed little or nothing for, I just cant afford the 2000si pluss all the mods. I also consider my 240 a car i have 10 grand in that to me is worth ten grand. However my civic had about 26grand in it including the price of the car and i never felt like it was worth that kind of money. If i was to by my 240 sx the way it is from someone else i would pay 9-10 grand for it, if i was to buy my civic the way it was i would spend 18 grand tops. I hope you see where im going with this

Re: Should i bail out on my turbo civic and get a wrx?? (turboex)
You sound like someone that hurt his motor and your looking for a way out...... If its true, cars don't break themselves. Money and time goes with the territory. If your fed up because of problems, put your car back to stock and sell off your turbokit and theres a good chunk of lute you can bank. Another car just means more payments(unless you have the coin to buy it out right). But if I sell your stuff thats gravy in your pocket and the car is still yours. Just a thought.

good post mikes!
and with te wrx $100000 says youll want to upgrade the turbo right away.
a wrx is nice but in your situation i wouldnt be looking at a new car just yet.

Re: Should i bail out on my turbo civic and get a wrx?? (SiRkid)
I've been tuning my car myself with an fjo wideband. I thought it'd be a good way to save money. Well after i got it and tuned it for about 2 hours..i just got so sick of it. I hate driving it, recording datalog, and then going back over everything. It just takes so much time.
As for the lancer evo. I cant afford it. Wrx i think i can get for around 24k ish for the '03 model. Lancer is like 30k. I also love the way a wrx looks.
Either way, i think its time for a new car. Either gonna part this civic out or sell it as is. After i fix the headgasket that is. Gonna finish tuning it, dyno it/or track it and try to sell it as is...it'd be much easier.
