shattered thrust bearing on built motor???
Thrust bearing shattered after only 300 miles!!!!!!
Mods:
82mm JE pistons 9.2:1
File to fit rings
Eagle rods
All brand new ACL bearings
Golden Eagle block guard
ARP main/head studs
Cometic head gasket
My question is If you install a thrust bearing backwards.....meaning the oil runners are not next to the crank, would this cause it to wear down and eventually shatter? Could i bring forth this information to the shop as an installation error??

Re: (B_radGSR)
This one guy that rebuilt and engine of mine once said that when he tore down my engine and inspected it that my thrust bearing was still in good shape. He made a comment like "you had a good clutch in there" or something like that. Since you made that last comment about the clutch related problem it made me think of it.
If the crankshaft had to much play in it or run-out whatever its called, and when the clutch was being used could it have put enough pressure on that bearing to make it shatter?

if u step on the clutch and the car shuts off, then u have crank walk. this will build up insanely high oil pressure and cause damage to the crank and block!

if it shattered how did yoiu know it was in backwards or were all of them backwards.
i could see grinding to eventually break apart but shatter damn.

i have an ACT Extreme pressure plate with a street disc. Only one half of the bearing shattered, the other half came out. The bearing itself has EXTENSIVE wear on the side with the runners, aka they are shaved down almost flat. The other side is really shiny, i will post pics of it tomm.

No way....you have something more at play here other than the damn pressure plate. Thousands of people run that pressure plate and don't grenade thrust bearings. There has to be some type of install error or oiling issue.

Re: (RC000E)
same **** happend to my buddys h22 .. he used that same pressure plate ... when he pressed in the clutch the idle rpms dropped dramatically... eventually messing up the motor around 300 miles like you here is the thread to that .....

Re: (Pullig)
its not the pressure plate!!!!!!!!!!! the crank clearance - endplay (not crank bearing clearances) was outta spec which created crank walk. u will most likely need to machine the block to fix that problem or just get a new block

yeah def not the pressure plate. I have ran that same clutch and pressure plate for around 15,000 on the stock gsr motor. Is there any possible way to prove it was an installation error? I will post pics of the actual bearing later on today

You did install it backwards....The 2 grooves should be facing you when looking at them.

i didn't build it a race shop did...thats y im trying to prove that it was due to an installation error! So which way would be correct? Oil runners toward the crank or away from it?

Good luck making them fix it if he's already torn it apart... Might happen. Might not.

see took care of that one too. They tore it down I took the bearing into 2 other machine shops and they said it was installed backwards, but wouldn't write me a reco because they didn't wanna step on any toes. What the hell is that?!
