ok, im not sure where to stick this thread so ill put it here and maybe the admins can point me right but..

Im trying to know if anyone has tuned a civic themselves and how hard is it and what do i need??

Running OBD1
I have a wideband
I have a manual boost controller
I have a laptop

What else do I need or are there any other post out there that has this? i did some diggin around and couldn't find any good ones.

Running a B17 with a t70 turbo.

I doubt anyone here has tuned their own Civic so you'll be a pioneer!

pgmfi.org is a great place to start for anyone. do as much reading as you can.

Definitely go to the tuning and management section of this website. There are a lot of resources and reading to do on there. I also bought the book How to Tune and Modify Enine Management Systems by Jeff Hartman. Good read for anyone who is brand new to tuning. Also the management system you choose should have a decent walkthrough of how to use the software included with their setup. Start there. AND rely heavily on the search function on here. Basic searches have answered most all of the questions I have had so far.

What software are you planning on using to tune with?

your gonna need either a romulator or a chip burner. its alot easier to learn on a system like s300 and then move to crome once you understand where you are in the map since Iv never been able to get data logging to work with crome lol.

I have neptune RTP and its pretty awesome. Easy to use and has video walkthrough on the website.

It's pretty easy within a few days you'll have the basics down. I would start with an all motor low hp car so that you don't have to purchase dyno time. Unfortunately I learned on my car so I spent a lot of money on the dyno. But I guess I saved a lot of money not paying a tuner.

Lots of people tune their own cars... Some better and some worse than others. Research all that you can about the theories and principle behind IC engines.

Tune mines my self. Pretty easy. You wont hit max power but it will drive and last.
You need real time programing. Burning chips is now old school and a waste of time.

But start off by pulling -1deg pre lb of boost.
Then do the injector sizing.

Start car and idle it.
Let it warm up and when it does make sure the idle AFR is around 14.7 (mines is 15.6)
Then drive it around logging the afr, rpm, and load (vac/boost)
Get your off boost tune first. Most of the time you need less fuel ib high vac (20inhg-15inhg).

Once thats good. Do some 3rd gear pulls. If the wideband say anything higher then 11.8 let off the gas. No 12s while n boost.
Then just add fuel where it wad lean. Keep doing this till you get an afr of
20inhg - 15inhg = 14.7:1
14inhg -10inhg = 14:1
9inhg -5inhg = 13.6-13.2
4inhg - 0ingh = 12.6:1
1psi - 5psi = 11.8:1 (i have a small turbo so u could do 11.6)
6psi - 8psi = 11.6-11.5
9psi- 10psi = 11.5:1

Well thats how mines is setup and it runs good.
Dont forget to fill up with 91 or 93 (i run 93 since its safer and only $1 more pre fillup).
Gap you plugs 30-26
Tune n the day time. Then recheck at night.
