you gotta inspect it you really better off buying a newone though. 500 miles you dont know what they did with it, They could have glazed it heated up destroyed it anything possible

Maybe he learnt to drive stick in 500 miles, now he needs a new one.
get pics of the surfaces, make sure there is a return policy if its junk.
I would spend the extra on a new one.

Clutches, brake pads, rotors, condoms... there are somethings that really shouldn't be bought used.
If you are doing the install yourself, then consider it IF it's cheap enough. Like 100 dollars. You can always replace it yourself if it prematurely goes bad...
Otherwise, if you are paying for the install, it would suck to install it and then find out it goes out in a few hundred miles and then pay for another install again.

i like what someone said on this board a little while ago about used clutches... i forgot who it was though... but buying used clutches is like buying used underwear... u never know what ur getting into
