rotating exhaust housing on t3.......
i just picked up a garrett t3, it has been rebuilt. if i were to mount it to a manifold now, the compressor would be aiming toward the block. what is the precedure for rotating the exhaust housing around? can i just remove the screws and rotate it? is there a seal between there, that could get ruined? please give detailed info on the precedure to follow.
thanx

cool, so theres no seal in between there? i don't want to ruin anything. do you know torque specs when i put the bolts back in?

There is a seal, so be careful. I dont know of any torque specs. I just snug mine down, not overly tight or loose. Kinda like how tight the oil pan/valve cover bolts are tightened

cool.
this may be a stupid question, but does the shaft go through the exhaust housing?i.e. once bolts are taken out will it totally seperate? should i oil the seal before resealing it?

I'm not sure exactly what u mean by that, but if u take all the bolts out of the compressor side of the turbo the whole compressor housing will come off. I wouldn't oil any of the seals. Its just a paper like gasket.

pip9,
thanx for the help! i forgot to mention that i have an internal wastegate. do i just move the actuator so it matches up in relation to the housing?

When you turn the housings, unbolt to the 2 bolts that support the wg actuator, and just reposition the wg actuator back on the compressor housing where itll work once you have it positioned.

Re: rotating exhaust housing on t3....... (ITSTOCK)
thank you!
one more question, is it better/easier to rotate the turbine or comp. side?
my actuator arm is threaded, and from my searches here i've gathered that by threading the arm shorter=reduces boost, correct?

just rotate compressing housing: upbolt two bolts that hold the internal wastegate adaptor and then loosen the rest of the bolts on the compressor side and slow turn the compressor housing.
If its stuck or doesnt move, get a hammer and cover it wth lots of clothes or a mallet and slowly tap all around the edges and it should be able to rotate.
I hope that helps
