Reusing rod that had a spun/bad bearing...
Is it ok/safe to reuse a rod that had its bearing go bad? here are some pics of the rod and one of the other ones in the set that appears fine:
the ends(easy to see which one it is, looks like it got pretty warm ):
here are the insides(you can still see a crosshatch patter on the good one):

Looks like set of crowers I have. My machinest said he could remachine it and make it usuable again but he personally would not run it in his motor. I ended up ordering one replacement rod from crower. You have to get the exact weight in grams of one of the good rods then they will try and find one close or custom make you one. It will cost 170 plus shipping. Mine looks a little worse than yours though.

I would like to see more opinions though, did I spend 170 just to have all pretty looking rods and peace of mind? here a pic of mine btw
The bad one is obvious. Anyone want to purchase one slightly used crower d16 rod ?

Looks like you did the right thing since the "blueing" went all the way to the base of the beam. This portion of the bean is one of the more highly stressed areas.

Ive actually spun a rod bearing on Crower rods. Took it to my machine shop and they checked it over. Gave them a new hone and checked out of roundness....oddly enough all 4 had this. He had to buy a new mandrel for the machine to re-finish my rods, but it only cost me $50 to have them all touched up.
So, I guess it depends on how bad you spun the bearing. Hopefully you have a good machine shop in your area that can do this for you. If not then send them my way and I'll have them checked/serviced at my cost.

If you reuse the rod without rebuilding it first, the bearing will probably spin again. Same with the crank.

I would take those to a machine shop if you dont have a dial bore gauge and a micrometer set...have them check for out-of-round to see if you need them machined or not..thats what I would do

When you rebuild the big end of the rod, you must check with the rebuilder and use the torque that they used when rebuilding the rod. If they used 50 instead of 45lbs, you must use 50 when installing.

i saw that most everyone says 45 ft/lbs for the crowers. the bolts in these particular rods are 5/16" SPS bolts(not ARPs). is it still 45ft/lb for those? and can anyone verify that the rods are in fact crowers from the pics?
