Default Rebuilt my turbo and it still smokes!!!

I just rebuilt my garret (well AIResearch) turbo with a kit from the g-pop shop on ebay and it still smokes. i mean there was a BUNCH of burnt up oil in my turbine, so i figured it would go away after the rest burnt off, but it still smokes the SAME way it did before, but now more under load and but about the same at idle, etc
any suggestions?
thanks
burke

it might be bad rings did you check to see if you were smoking when you took the turbo off. i had the same problem and it ended up being my rings bc i was smoking when i started the car without the turbo on . by the way i fabbed a exhaust pipe to replace the turbo and go from the turbo manifold straight to the exhaust.

i had the same problem...turned out i had 2 causes...niether was turbo's fault

1) WAY too high of oil pressure and volume at turbo. get a restrictor. people use nitrous jets, some random autometer fitting, or ballvalves.... (stealthmode sells the ballvalve thing)

2) this was the kicker...my pcv system wasnt doing ****. almost clogged..and under boost it wasnt venting a bit. positive crankcase pressure meant positive turbo center section pressure to (through return line), and it was pissing oil out the seals due to that.

it wasnt burning oil, it was boiling it, resulting in a minimal oil loss, and MAXIMUM oil smoke (much more smoke boiling than burning. )

good luck figureing this out!

Get a restrictor, do a compression test.

do a leakdown test and if it smokes under idle it coudl be valve seals/guides. does it always smoke on idle or only after a hard run?

I'm having pretty much the same problems on my boosted GSR, smokes pretty random though. Only smokes at idle though, but sometimes it won't smoke all day then all of a sudden it'll start smoking. I pulled the charge piping from the turbo and it's not wet, downpipe looks clean too. After a week or so of the random smoke, I'm starting to smell burning oil after a full boost run when it goes back into vacuum on the gauge. I don't have a restrictor, but will probably get one to see if it will help, what kind of pressure do you set the restrictor at to get good flow to the turbo.

Check the oil pressure AT THE LINE, before you do that restrictor. You may Fry it trying to prevent something. You starve it, you've killed it.

im gonna probably go with a restrctor. anybody know a good place that sells them, i think atp does buts its like $14 for a lil hunk of brass.
compression is real good, 190 180 185 185, and its not the valve seal either, i know how they act. i know for a fact that its turbo because i pulled/scraped coked up oil out of the hot side where there is that round cup shaped thing. it was FULL of ****! i have pretty crazy oil pressure and like a -4 an line i think. so i think i may be drowing it out.
thanks for all the help guys!

Just get an air restrictor valve from your local hardware store. Its basically the same thing stealthmode perofmrance sells. its about 5-10 bucks.

Oh and an update on my smoking situation, I took apart my turbo and replaced th ehot side seal with a used one i had laying around, put on an oil restrictor, probably smokes about 80% less but still puffs a bit of blue, but still nothing liek before. I think its time for a full turbo rebuild running without a restrictor just killed it there was TONS of coked material where the exhaust turbine seal sits. Go figure, at 70-80 psi pressure I dont see why not. Oh, and a turbo is meant to see about 25psi MAX>

Is there oil in you're intercooler piping or downpipe? Check your oil return line and make sure its not kinked and backing up oil under boost.
