please post your comments /pics of your real garrett 60-1

i have a turbo here, dont think its a genuine garrett.

1. garrett not stamped on exhaust housing

2. totally different center section that ANY other garrett i've seen in person or on the internet

3. Different looking assy. bolts, none marked with paint like all other garretts

4.threaded hole(comp housing), which shouldn't be there

5. missing the garrett tag and gasket pack.

and 6. didn't even come in a garrett box.

here's a pic from the net of a true garrett, and i circled the part of the center section showing what mine doesnt have.



this is a photo from online, another 60-1 turbo, looks like the one i was supposed to have got, but again, mine looks nothing like it.


found one on ebay, which is a garrett by the looks, has all the traits mentioned above , can be viewed for reference.

At a glance it looks like one. There are a few things that make me wonder though. The EC-1 marking is not on my 60-1 nor any other one I have seen. Basically the markings on the turbo is what is making me wonder.

its a To4B compressor blade. so its likley a 60-1 with a diff mfg for the center section and turbine housing

anyone notice the 12 point gold nut on the compressor wheel, does garrett use them?

im pretty sure my 12pt nut is black not gold, at least thats how it is on my 57 trim

I know turbos very well and here is what I see that you have.


The comp cover is a Garrett for sure. See the M24 cast in the cover that is from one of the Garrett foundries.

The bearing housing you are asking about could be an older Garrett or a Borg Warner niether are bad to have. The thing you are looking at in the bearing housing that is missing on your is an update to the older castings it is there for support. It keeps the bearing housing from cracking on heavey equipment. It should not be a problem on your car.

Now the turbine housing is not a Garrett, I am not sure who made it but the markings on it are for sure not from Garrett.

Here is what I think you got. This turbo looks like it is a reman unit or a unit that a turbo shop put together with parts they had laying around. If you were sold an OE Garrett that is not what you got in my opion. I am not saying this is a bad unit and you should not use it I am saying this is not a box unit from Garrett. But it is a 60-1 turbo.

I'd say rebuild with older gear laying around or it could possibly be the first turbo every made.

Exhaust housing is sketchy, I doubt its Garrett.

You're comparing pics of straight T4 60-1 turbos, against your T3/T4 60-1 ... Your turbo is based on a T3 while the other one is T4. Only natural that the center sections don't look the same!

every t3/t4 i've bought for people in the past year all have that same looking center section, like the pic i circled the part on, even a 57 had that center section
