Quick question......10.6 compression too high?
10.6 - 10.8 compression too high for turbo? 5-7 lbs daily driver, weekend 8-12 lbs. Good tuning with Hondata S200.

B16's are in the low 10.x's stock. So honestly, its all in the tune.
Edit Curious why the s200 instead of the s300?

yea just dont push it up too much.
People have boosted stock Itr's to 8-10lbs. 11:1 compression.
Supercharged and turbo charged.
Use cold plugs and gap them a tad smaller and get it tuned.

stock ls. stock bore i guess, i was just woundering if i bumped the compression up to 10.5 if it would help spool up quicker? Is there a way i can make it spool up faster?

Re: Quick question......10.6 compression too high? (SOHC_me)
The reason I ask is. Theres a difference between:
D16 75mm 10.6:1
vs
B18 81mm 10.6:1
vs
B18 84mm 10.6:1
vs
B16 81mm 10.6:1
vs
B16 84mm 10.6:1
Piston design changes with each of te motors, Bore size and the type of combination with the cylinder heads.
We usually run 84mm Flat top 10.9:1 pistons on alot of our race motors. Its still a good design for turbo due to its flat top design. You just want to stay away from the more Dome style pistons for turbo.
10.6:1 isnt really a big compression so in general its a good compression for turbo.

reason asking bc a friend has cp pistions that give me a 10:5:1 cr, thats just what he told me, i don't know if it does, it wols be going into a totaly stock ls engine, so i don't know if those pistions have a lot of dome or not, but thanks for the info

I'm running 10.5:1 SRP pistons in my D16, but when I calculated the compression out it came out to more like 10.1:1 for some reason. It's working out good so far at 14 psi, see sig. I'll eventually raise the boost with a race gas tune.

Mr Green earlier on this year had his motor at 12.2-12.5 compression with 40 psi... destoryed a piston, compressed into two little *****. Went way lean due to a bad wideband. $300 part cost him $5,000.

hows that working for you??
i goign with a 10:5 for my Z6

I haven't had any problems with it. I did have a couple of issues with the pistons hitting the heads when I mocked up the engine. After opening the chambers and equalizing the quench pads, problem solved. It is tougher to tune timing though. You have to be very conservative to start out and work slowly.
I want to up the boost but this turbo is so far out of its efficiency range that I doubt it would do anything for me.

Re: (racin jasin R)
nothing at all wrong with boosting a 10.5:1 motor, i wouldnt recommend it if youre looking to run it daily on the street, because 9:1 or 9.5:1 pistons are just a cheap and available, and less prone to detonation. Just think, one bad tank of gas and your built motor is gone, what you have to look at is how often youll be driving this vehicle, and what youll be doing with it good luck
