Re: Questions regarding Holset HX35 turbo (Odiedogcx)
hey the x 35 are "Designed primarily for 6 cylinder engines of 5.0 to 6.5 litre capacity the HX 35 turbocharger has higher flow aerodynamics capable of providing up to 0.46 kg/s at 3.0:1. " thats what i got off there web site most of there turbo are designed for diesel engines. well thats what i've been told (i work at turbocam in dover nh were we make the compressor wheels ). All i i can say is that holset has some of the best people making there parts

Hey Brian. People on this board claim it'll spool faster than the SC61 and outflow it. However I don't think there has been any proof to back that up yet. From Holset's description, I don't see how it could. You never know, buy it and find out.

Well I have the opportunity to get one, but i'm just hesitant on if it will be too big or not, and about spool times.
Thanks.

Re: Questions regarding Holset HX35 turbo (Odiedogcx)
it flows about 60 lbs/ min as I remeber. J davis has put it on a car and had spool up times about equal to that of an sc61. originally we had thought it was bb but it is not.

The turbo is BIG, I have first hand experience. The compressor size is on par with a T04S. 4" inlets are standard. The wheels design is comparable to the Garret GT class, if not a tad better. The compressor does flow about 60~61 lb/min, which is good for the 600~650hp range. The A/R on the exhaust housing is supposedly .55a/r. I'm not 100% sure about this fact, but that would account for the turbo's awesome spool characteristics(for such a large turbo). Yes thats a bit on the small side for the exhaust A/R. However the housing is a divided tang setup which can be cut down to effectivly increase the A/R of the turbo. This does slow your spool and increase lag, but it gives better flow. Cutting the divider completely out reportedly raises the spool +1000rpm(give or take).
The HX35 in untouched may spool up a bit sluggish on a mostly stock B16, you're prolly looking at 4500~5000 for 10psi. Unless your a track ***** or a top-end racer it's probably not going to be the best street turbo. Although that amount of lag will favor you on the hole shot.
Also the HX35's has a big brother the by the name of HX40. Nice thing is the compressor/wheel will swap from an HX40 to a HX35. Effectively giving you a 700+hp hybrid turbo.

Of course, I just want to see results before I make a decision if I want to keep my current T3/T4 or ditch it and go for the Holset

I've read that if you make a divided turbo header that groups 1-4 and 2-3 into each side of the housing (for which it was designed to do) then it will spool up much quicker. The trick is making a header. Probably not hard for a few of the fabrication guru's on here.
BTW, you have to love the v-band turbine housing.

heres one that I made to do this. It was a Garret GT something, ungodly huge though.

Actually if you look at the inlet shot in one of the pictures up there you'll see a shiney ring b/t the 4" inlet and the acutaul compressor inlet. Thats a silencer ring, supposedly it help keep spool/turbo noise down. Not everyone likes to hear their engine making power appearently . The ring just prevents turbulence at the mouth of the turbo, removal of said silencer ring will prolly increase the sound volume....perhaps to the maginitude that people will fear for thier childen and small animals being sucked in as you pass....
