Default Questions about Turbo kits and stock motors.

I'm planning on buying a stock JDM b18c Type R motor from Napa and then putting a full turbo kit on it. This is going to be swapped into my 95 honda civic EG because I just recently blew my stock b16 Turbo. What are some of your takes on doing this?

Do it, this is the FI section, nobody is going to think that is a bad idea. But what the eff is NAPA? You mean like the parts store? I didn't know they sold engines, let alone ITR engines...

yea.. Napa the auto parts store.. I called them and I guess they can get a hold of a rebuilt stock b18C Type R motor for 3G.. I really need a motor so that's what I'm planning on doing as of now. Do you think there are any serious problems tho that could possibly happen with turbo a stock b18c?

Hmm you may want to reconsider buying that rebuilt motor, it probably is a bare longblock that is missing a lot of parts which will add up to a lot of $$$ you will have to spend, ask if it comes with an intake manifold, throttle body, sensors, valve cover, cams, distributor, alternaotr etc... it probably wont!! Consider buying a used Engine instead... And yes there are potential problems with a turbo ITR, its high compression engine, it has to be tuned properly, NO SKIMPING!!

I'll check to see if those parts come along with this motor... I just recently took my stock b16 turbo to King Motorsports to get it tuned for $550.00.. I ended up papying 1G all set and done which to me was bullshit.. As soon as I got my car back my shifter on the bottom fell to the ground and I was like wtf!! I had no gears so I had to push my car back home to get it re attached.. about 2 days after I got my car back from KMS my breather started smoking.. and my motor was stalling at every stop and go light.. After my car was unoperational I decided to get it towed right back to KMS and told them to fix whatever is wrong with the car and they were saying no.. blah blah.. its not our fault.. blah blah.. i ended up having them take a look at it for an extra 150.00 and then later I found out that I had metal on metal pulley's that through off my harmonic balance.. which then through off my oil pump.. which later ****ed my ENTIRE motor up... so now i'm pissed at KMS for doing a shitty job tuning or atleast not telling me about my shitty pulleys and that I should replace them before they tune them.. and now my car is sitting on the ground and I'm trying to get a new motor asap! What do you guys think of that bullshit story? I dont think I'll ever go back to KMS again!#!

Why not build the B16 with the $3k you have allotted for the ITR swap. That makes better sense to me. You could do a simple piston/rod build and save some money vs the swap. Just a thought...

I would def consider doing that .. but I already blew my entire motor after KMS tuned it.. 1g went down the hole because of that.. my motor is complete junk! the only thing that is still working is the tranny.

unless you have a rod hanging out the side, why do you think it's junk?

Its probably not gonna be a full motor, might need a water pump, and how are they going to install the complete turbo kit without the car.

Why dont you just do it yourself, 3 grand on the engine, 1500-2000 grand for all the turbo parts, (Not including tuning($1000), injectors $200, Tuning software, chip 400

yeah. like accord said, if you didnt toast the block its fixable.

did you just ruin a cylinder wall? im sure your head is still fine?

even if your block is messed up, you still have a good oil pan, sensors, IM, TB, injectors, tranny, you can just get a sleeved block and act as if you were just rebuilding your own.

well after taking apart my motor.. I've come to conclude that I'm going to need a new short block.. everything's shot.. pistons.. bearings..crank..harmonic balance..ext.. its all messed up.. I'm now trying to find a b16a2 short block.. if anyone who sees this posting and can get ahold of a fairly cheap but descent condition short block lemme know..!

just a question but how in the world does a tune cost you $1000+??? most i have spent on tues have been between 3-400$ and that is at most! and since when does NAPA sell b18c's let alone a turbo kit for it?

firstly the compression on the b18c is like 11.1 to one or something if its the type r, not the gsr (they have the same code) so no you dont want to turbo it unless you change compression, it would be a hard build to make reliable even if you had a fantastic tune. Im all for you boosting but why waste a type r, a motor that is made to make lots of power "all motor" style. get a lesser motor with less compression and boost that if you want to leave the engine stock. imho stock type r+ boost= knock knock BOOM

How about no Type R parts at all? That would be pretty neat.

what are you talking about.. having all type r internals would be about the same as having a stock b16.. if i put a thick gasket for low compression ill be fine with running a turbo..

What am I talking about? good question.

I'm talking about building the right engine for what you want to do. It's not complicated. it's been done a million times before and it works really well...

Get some Eagle rods and some 9 to one CP or whatever pistons and rings. Then rebuild the rest of the engine with only stock parts except maybe bearings. Yay! Now you can make more power than your tires can put down and you don't ever have to say things like "type R" or "fully built". Super cool. Go try it, feels awesome.
