question on water @ oil cooled turbo

question on water @ oil cooled turbo
where do you run the lines i know this is probably a newb question but never done a turbo and my friend is taking on the task on a single cam we have the hf manifold@ adapter, vortec fmu its going on a zc dual cam if anyone has any suggestions on what turbo would be best for 5-6 pounds of boost

What lines? The coolant lines? Bypass the throttle body and run em over to the turbo instead. Works great.

You don't have to run the coolant lines if you don't want to, it's just extra cooling for the turbo's center section. If you have a wet(water-cooled) center section, I would go ahead and run the lines, since it isn't very hard.

on a ball-bearing turbo that has water-cooling fittings..you need to run the coolant lines. the life of the turbo will go to **** if you dont. that center section spins so much, the watercooling is essentially the only thing that lets it have the ability to last a long time

If the turbo has a water jacket then why not run the lines? It's extra insurance against coking.
I drove the **** out of my turbo and when I took it apart to rebuild it there were zero signs of coking. The oil in the CHRA looked fresh and clean with no deposits!
Running water lines increases the coking threashold by a considerable amount. Plus, with water lines you don't have to wait for the car to cool down as long. Even after you shut the car off the water will continue to cool the turbo slowly.
Here's how I ran mine. There is a section of hard line that is right between the intake manifold and the throttle body, I cut it in half and ran one end to the turbo and the other from the turbo. It's kinda hard to explain...
Here's a picture of the lines. The arrow is pointing to them.

I ran mine from what used to be a little nipple (removed the nipple and drilled/tapped a -6an fitting) where the top radiator hose hooks up to the head to the turbo then from the turbo to a nipple on the stock water pipe right behind the thermostat.
